I got the cheapest odyssey case they make for decks. It's really lite but still built tough enough for gigging and all it's holding are my midi controllers(mounted securely) with ALL cables running between compartments neatly.
When i get to the gig the lappy leaves it's seperate bag, sits nicely where the mixer would normally mount.

Under the case i've got one of those protable folding stands(i can't find the name on the damn thing???).
If i feel like bringing my rack of FX it fits perfectly on the shelf under the case.

It's a DAMN NICE/EASY/QUICK setup. If the main power and my audio feed is ready when i get there i can be up and running within minutes!

if you want a case for your laptop, a case that isn't going to allow for your laptop to slide around smack the inside of the case, get a custom one from this guy http://www.pearsoncases.com/. i had him make me cases for just about everything i own. the cases could get hit by a tank and they'd still be in one piece. PLUS, they're extremely inexpensive. a hard case for my micron cost me $105, the case for my mpc cost $95
