anyways, so far i've loved my macbook but there are some virgin issues you'll most likely have to deal with, if u dont, then damn you are lucky and one of the few.

besides that they are amazing.
Do you know whether they occur on all configurations or just certain models?
hey, i'm not having either of these problems with my macbook, i've got the 2ghz 2gb model and it's sailing along like a dream...

I have had my MacBook Pro for 2 weeks now. No problems. The whine thing is very overblown. I can only hear something when I am using the battery and then only when there is no noise in the room at all. The little widget trick works just fine.

The MOTU Ultralite is the perfect companion. The shit works rock solid.

The only drawbacks:

1. Fear that Ableton won't release the next beta before the current one expires!

2. Not many soft synths are universal yet.

So, so far so good.

ok Benec/ Groove

i to dont really mind it since on daily use i'm in a noisey environment. HOWEVER take this to the library, or in your quiet studio (if u have one) and you'll see what i'm talking about. The whine noise is not overblown, it should not be there.

the annoyance varies from person to person. it doesn't affect me greatly... yet. the widget trick does work but right now people are trying to figure out if the problem comes from the speed stepping functionality and if it does chances are the widget trick kills a little bit of battery life....

benec- if you truly dont have any of the two i'd like to know when you ordered your macbook and when u recieved it. first double check to make sure you dont have the problem (reboot the computer) get into a very very quiet area, and let it sit idle for a bit. test to see if screen brigthness dimming under idle mode doesn't create a hissing.

also test to see if u get a whine if not working the computer hard enough.

Hey Groovecake -

Is your Oxygen working without issues? Do you use the Enigma editor?

Just curious. Enigma is not working on my Macbook.

Joe.

Digi - I guess my view of it being overblown is the million threads about it on the Apple forums. I honestly can't hear it in a room with any amount of ambient noise. It does exist. I am not denying that. But the widget trick is so simple. As far as it taking battery life, since you turn the widget off, I can't imagine it takes too much power in the long run.

Also, there are two different whines that people are talking about. One of them involves the screen and it is very bad. The more widespread whine is pretty small, I think. And I am someone who gets bugged by the sound a television makes.

Dsmini - Once I downloaded the latest drivers for the MBP, the Oxygen is working fine. I do not use the Enigma editor, so I can't comment on that.

yeah the widespread whine is a bit overblown. the widget trick will cause a little bit of battery fall off if the issue has to do with teh speed stepping function.

the brigthness whine is way too much and requires you to send in your macbook, or get it replaced.

the apple forums are just like that, they demand a lot.
