iMac G5 vs iMac intel
I want to buy a new mac, as just my 700mhz iBook G3 is getting old as you can imagine...
So I work with Live, protools and lots of vst´s and au´s.
My only concern is the time I must wait to all the vst´s I use are Universal for use with the iMac intel. So I think a Imac G5 would get me a far more peacefull transition, and no stoping in music production.
Ok, I´m waiting for your thoughts.
Thank you!

I went with the MacBook because I didn't have that many AU's and can wait for Universals. However, it sounds like you have quite a stable of things, so the G5 might be the way to go...especially since there are places trying to unload them. Guitar Center had an open box iMac G5 1.8 for $719 a couple months or so ago.
MacBook Pro 2.0 Dual, 2 Gig RAM, MOTU Ultralite, Ableton Live, Moog Voyager RME, MultiMoog, Rhodes stage 73, Hammond B-3, Hammond XK-3, Leslie 145, Yamaha Motif, Alesis Photon X-25, M-Audio Oxygen
which vst/au's are the most important for you?
many are getting shoveled out this weekend at Messe..
MH ChannelStrip and FabFilter were announced today.
Rob Papen's BLUE FM synth updated yesterday.
AudioDamage is all ready. NI in the next month or two, WaveArts in just a couple more weeks.. etc. etc.
I would get the Intel because:
A) its more power now
B) it will be more power with Live 6, thanks to multi-threading in the audio engine. That 2nd core will get alot more use and revitalize your Mac.
Also, i found it refreshing to have a few less plug-ins for a couple months.
it actually allowed me to concentrate on the material, rather than all the software gadgetry that surrounds it.

i only can tell you that there is a public beta of stylus RMX no idea about the othersSoundmatters wrote:I have Legacy collection, Gmedia´s Imposcar and Oddity, Stylus RMX, Linplug´s albino, alpha and cronoX....PSP vintage warmer and nitro, Native´s FM.
I already tested a iMac G5 with protools running 30 audio tracks with 63 plugins rewired to live and it went great.
MacbookPro Core2Duo 17" 160 gb SATA 2gb ram.

Live 6,
It's all about logic pro. If you have that, can afford that, or are using that.....then a macintel is for you.
Now, being this is an ableton forum, and ableton is VERY stable with ub's right now.....and you don't mind the 49 bucks when the release comes out, then here are some of the "hot" plugs that are currently in works, or will be out soon.
reason (read website)
wavearts (all)
fxpansion (check website)
peterson tuner
stylus rmx (one of my next purchases)
and ....and I'm just guessing here.....psp. I just have a feeling that vintage warmer and some others are going to hit sooner than we think.
NI will be a long time. Website says when they "plan" on releasing thingsl......and you know how that goes.
That puts ALLOT of pressure on an imac/m'cbook pro person to wait for many MANY important plugs.
