Nubes problem with program

Post by dieds37 » Tue Apr 04, 2006 12:36 am

I just picked u the demo version today and am attempting to record guitar tracks. The problem is that the tracks are only playing out of my right speaker. I've looked around and can't pinpoint the source of the problem. Suggestions?

well, an electric guitar is inherently a mono instrument, and the signal is passing through the tip of the plug. the sleeve is the ground.

your sound card inputs, if in fact they are stereo, are what's called "tip, ring, sleeve" let's say tip=right, ring=left, sleeve=ground. (i leave open the possiblity of L/R being switched, dunno)

anyway you can see why a mono instrument plugged into a stereo input will only give sound on one channel. the input jack is dumb and doesn't know to split your tip's signal over both of it's wires.

try this: in Live's preferences, go to the Audio tab. Find your soundcard's "input config" button and press that. Make sure that the button for 1/2 Mono is enabled (it's ok to still have the stereo option enabled)

on your audio track in live, set the input to 'ext in' (which you already should have, by what you've said)

from the drop-down box just under that, select "2" instead of "1/2"

now you should be getting just a mono signal to your track, and the pan control will actually function as a pan, rather than stereo balance.

(with a stereo track and signal on only one channel, panning the track will just sound like you're fading out your signal, because there's nothing on the other side to take it's place)

phew
