Run time error with Echo DJ sound card installed

I'm getting a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error when I start up Live 5.0.3 on my Pentium M laptop with the Echo DJ card installed.

When I remove the card and try again, live starts. Then I can insert the card, select it from the audio preferences and go.

Obviously, I'd like not to have to do this routine. Any suggestions?
