4 bars .... 6 bars .... 12 bars????

Post by Waterboy » Wed Apr 05, 2006 12:01 am

Hi, folks! Got one of those "noob" questions for y'all, so please take it easy, as this is my first post!
I am trying to figure out a way to pre-set the length when (as an example) I want to record (4) bars of audio .... as opposed to unlimited recording of audio and then hitting the space bar and doing the "crop" thing.
What about pre-setting a record length of (6) bars ... or maybe even (12) bars .....
does anybody know how (or if) this can be done? Thank you very much for your time & assistance with this issue! Take care!

two different ways to approach this, for session or arrangement view:

in session, this is pretty easy to do in the increments which appear in the global quantization settings. (..., 1 bar, 2 bars, 4 bars, 8 bars)

when you hit a clip slot to start recording, it will "punch-in" at the next quantize point. if you hit the same clip slot button while this recording is in progress, you can switch to playback automatically when the quantize length is reached.

for example:

set quantize to 4 bars

hit slot button at some time before the "1" of bar 5,9,13,17,etc

clip starts recording on the "1" of bar 5(etc)

hit slot button again while recording is in progress

when the transport reaches 9(etc), the recording will end and playback will begin

there may be some preference settings which might effect this behavior, so maybe have a look at things like 'auto-loop samples' etc

in the arrangement view, you could do this with the punch-in and punch-out features. and you could do any length, even down to 1/16 note increments.
