DEMO CRASHING VERY OFTEN-Is ABLETON STABLE-INPUT APPRECIATED
Hi,
I am trying the Ableton demo but it keeps crashing on me, it sort of just seizes up and everything goes into slow motion. Usually when I try and do a menu command like redo or undo.
I am getting a more powerful laptop soon but was wondering if my compy specs have anything to do with it, they are:
1.6ghz ATHLON
512 MEG OF RAM - 16B MG SHARED VIDEO MEMORY
DMA 40GB hard drive (not sure of speed)
The compy is pretty old, about 4 years or so.
cheers
Mark

Hi Mark,Mark Lane wrote:cheers for the input guys.
can i ask, what is the beta? and how does it differ from the demo version which i downloaded from the ableton site? thanks! also where can i get a beta to try out?
Longjohns is right, the beta period is over, so no need to worry about now. But yes, the beta version is for everyone to try.
So that means that there is a new demo version to download from our website: that is version 5.2.
I would say that Live 5 should run on your computer though it is not the fastest: I myself have a 5 years old PIII 1 ghz with 512 Mb and 8 Mb shared video at home, and Live 5 can run on it.
Sometimes the Preferences and/or undo system files get corrupted and deleting them can help. Try to locate those files: Preferences.cfg and Undo.cfg, and delete them. You should find them here:
C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Ableton\Live 5\Preferences
Also, what version of Windows are you using ?
Kind regards,
Amaury

thanks for the input. It is good to see Ableton staff are quick to respond to problems on the forum and encourages me to buy the product.
I have deleted the cfg files. I did notice that when I operated undo on occasion the program crashed (amongst other times) so maybe it was that.
I will download version 5.2. I hope this will be more stable and will provide you with input.
Thanks again.
