Let's not forget, the iBook is a consumer laptop. The AlBook are there for the more demanding pro's!
But that little machine now outspecs my TiBook 550.......for far less money (but a 12" screen off course) That's how it goes in this hitec world.

Your TI book 550 also have 256 kb L2 cache.
The 500 have a 1 MB L2 cache this means the 500
is faster than the 550 and 665.
256kb L2 is not of this time anymore. It is easy to make the I-books faster..But No, Apple is not doing this because then the new Tibooks would not sell anymore.

While this has no impact on Live, there was some controversy as to whether Altivec is on the G4 iBook logic board or not. But this issue was cleared up in this thread (Altivec is on the iBook):

Whats the matter jamm ?

You can built up the RAM to 640 MB for only 115€ at your local Dealer !

I think its a great Option for those who have less money and beginners who wanna start into the proffesional Audio Production.

Don`t forget the i-book sounds so good as the Powerbook and it have Panther ....

Its 1000€ cheaper than the PB !!!

L2 cache memory is not the same as ram memory.

I only think it,s a shame that they don,t make the i-book
faster because i think the i-book will behave poorly with
live running on it. Not only live but in in reason 2.5 i also start to have
speed-problems with the new devices.
I am a long time mac user but more and more i am thinking off swithing to the much faster and much cheaper pc laptops.

greeeeeetinz...

(1 gig ram running here)
