Couple of questions need answering thanks

Post by DJSLEEPLESS » Mon Apr 10, 2006 12:19 am

Firstly i use ableton manly for djing and quick remix work, I am mixing a not so clever band with a drummer from hell at the moment and would like to be ableton to warp all 8 Close mic'ed drums at once is this possible at all in live? I want to warp all using parameters from only 1. For example I do all the warping on the kick drum then copy them warp markers to the other files, or select all files and work from the image of 1 or all combined. i don't really want to bounce down to a stereo track just yet but realize that this may need to be done.

Secondly i want to drag various edits onto the session view window at once. Ableton seems to let me drag individual files but not various edits of a track. I am using 5.1.1 (I think).

hope you can help.

Cheers

yes. the basic idea is to
1- make your 8 track recording
2- do your warping on the kick track (or whichever)
3- make 7 blank tracks and copy this warped kick, for a total of 8
4- use the replace function to insert the other 7 mic tracks into the pre-warped tracks

the key being that all 8 tracks are exactly the same length, which they should be if you roll them at the same time in one take.

I am in the session view and draging from the finder (within ableton). If i try to drag say 5 aiff files from the left into the session then this works. If i have a nuber of edits of a track (i.e. full track, first break, beat loop 1, 2 etc...) then this will not drag onto the session view.

Any Ideas?

sorry, i'm still not clear. what is the difference between an aiff file and an "edit of a track"? are what you're calling 'edits of a track' a group of different aiff files?

If you put warp markers on a file then loop a certain part you can save the whole track and the looped part or differently warped part by dragging the second edit to the file browser. this saves having a whole load of additional large wav/aiff/mp3 files on your disk. I cant seem to be able to drag more than 1 of these files on the session view. 9(.ALS FILES I THINK)

any help?

i have never used this technique you're talking about. the way you are describing it confuses me in terms of exactly what you're calling a "track"

terminology is a tricky business

however, once you said .als then it makes sense why you can't drag more than one in. .als means 'ableton live set' and is the file format which represents an entire set file. i believe you can drag them into session view, and it will put up all the clips which are in that set's session view. can you drag several .als files in, one at a time?

you should look into the .alc file type 'ableton live clips' - maybe saving your different edits as live clips ("live clip" is something distinct from regular "clips" which are referenced constantly in talking about Live)

looking at the manual, it appears that if you drag a single clip out to the browser, it will save as a live clip. if you drag a group of clips out, it will save as a live set.

have you tried unfolding the .als file in the browser? i think you can "open" to see all the clips which are used in that set. i don't know if that's helpful to you or not
