Fast Track Pro causes ground-noise

How can I get rid of noticeable ground-noise using my guitar through M-audio's Fast Track Pro with Ableton Live?
Please help!

My bet after recording lots and lots of guitar using different interfaces: check your cables and the guitar jack. 99% chance the problem is there. Proper insulation generally nails it.

You can also try to run it trough a mixer, but the ideal setup involves a DI box (ever tried a V-Amp or POD?).

i would say that you should update the firmware to the newest version possible. i had this problem with my project mix i/o - whenever i put it in protools mode, it a. refused to work and b. would make that god awful noise until i re-installed the firmware. it doesn't make the noise anymore, but it's still pretty terrible that i can't use this fancy piece of machinery in protools. after a month of trying to solve my problem, m-audio said i should just send it back to them for a new one. but i've seen a bunch of people who have has this same problem, which leads me to believe i should just sell the damn thing. m audio is so f'ing terrible. i'm at the point now where i'm thinking about replacing the project mix with a cheaper hui and getting a fireface 800 for everything else.

ah shit !
I hesitated before buying mine, but people here said the fast track pro was good, nothing like previous units. And now I've got this fuck*ng noise coming out of it.

KX, I also read a review in a mag before buying it and they said it didn't have a hi-Z input, although it says instrument input. So I guess it means instrument input is in fact a line input, and you can't plug your guitar straight in, you need an DI box or pedal or multiFX to change the impedance, that might be why, but that might also be because it is a piece of shit soundcard.
