New Mac Dilemma

Post by The Freeq » Wed Apr 12, 2006 2:39 pm

Hello
As part of a scheme through work I am able to "hire" any PC from PC World up to value of £1300.00.

I already have my eyes on a Dual Core Imac, but heres the dilemma....

I can start the "hire" period anytime up to the 21st May. Does anyone know if Mac are planning any new products/price drops by then?

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks :)

lol....you tight-fisted git, how much do you think they will drop the price in the space of a month-ish ? ...I'm betting there wont be any price drops (worth postponing a purchase, and wasting valuable time, and time is worth more than money & gold) for a while...and I seriously doubt it will be such a drop as to make one sick for buying sooner

get the imac
'hire' 'hire' 'hire' !

I know the feeling....but if you are set on the imactel (and not a fortcoming macbook/ibook) ...I doubt they will drop by anything worth stalling for.

If it is the iMac you are interested in then the next update to the Core Duo prcoessor is not due to ship in comercial quanities from Intel until June.

There is expectation of a price cut in currnet Core Duo CPUs at the end of May ahead of the newer processors.

Neither of those is likley to impact a 21st May deadline.

Do they ever drop the prices of Mac's? I have not noticed them doing that though until now I was not aware you could get a Mac from PC world. Apple sell a few models off cheap through the refurb store but I have not seen them drop the price of new models, just superceed them with a higher spec for the same price.

There is already a faster Core Duo available as an option for the MacBook Pro which Apple have not made available for the iMac. However any CPU speed update in the iMac is likely to relatively minor.

I can already run Logic Express, Live 5, Reason 3 and RMX simultaneously (rewire) on my 2Ghz G5 iMac (2GB) and by all accounts the Intel iMac will thrash this with universal binaries. I suspect the currnet model will meet your requirements though maxing out the RAM is a good idea.

Price cut soon?

Post by andreX » Wed Apr 12, 2006 4:45 pm

There is suppposed to be a price cut of intel chips late May along with the introduction of the 2.33 GHz Yonah, so it´s most likely that Apple simple ramps up the MacBoook Pro from 1,83/2,00/2,13 to 2,00/2,13/2,33 GHZ.
Means you´re getting mor Horsepower for your $$$, they won´t cut the price very soon, I believe.
