Tracking down mpc-2000xl tracks in Ableton Live

Post by m-prez » Wed Apr 12, 2006 11:47 pm

I'd like to track down beats in Live using synchronisation.

I have been messing with midi clock/mtc with mpc-2kxl as master.

So i switch on ext sync, put quantization to 1/4 (actually i tried different quantization settings) and punch in / out for recording to a clip slot.

But i never get multiple clips to run in sync with each other for a long time...

So what can i do to get this straight?

One workaround i had in mind was using the arrangement view.

I would set the mpc locator at 01:01:1 before each take > solo a track in the mpc

Then arm global record and track record in live

When i'd hit play on the mpc, live would start recording... records a few bars.

Then i'd go over and over again until i have all the tracks in arrangement view,

use the loop locators and copy/paste each track loop into a clip.

>>> However i find this to be a very inefficient method. There has to be a shorter way of getting tracks in live clips..

The sync rate in the midi/sync section? I (for some reason) have mine at -40ms and it is in perfect sync. What you should do is..., trial and error. turn on the metronome in live make sure the EXT box is on, now turn on the metronome in your mpc and have the click play when you're in play(you know, rec only, rec+play..,etc..,) Now, go to the midi/sync in live and start the midi delay at a negative value and press play on your mpc or i mean play start. If it starts to run out of sync try lowering the delay until they're in sync again. Press stop and play start again Check to see how far or close the metronome on the mpc and live are. It's pretty much like beatmatching on turntables... I hope I helped a little bit...
