steinberg remix??what the hell's that all about?

Post by sixela » Sun Oct 26, 2003 3:51 pm

I was just in PC world looking for some apps or controllers for teaching a toddler (if anyone has any suggestions??....) and they now have a PC audio section selling low end steinberg products and evolution midi keyboards and stuff and I saw steinberg remix, thought have a look see what the competition's done with the concept

looked at the back the screenshots are IDENTICAL TO LIVE, no mention of ableton at all on there, but selling it for 29.99UK pounds

have i been living under a rock and missed something??

It's a highly stripped dow old version of Live. The usual badging for visibility deal I think.

Hi, I just read the thread that link sent me to. ALARMING! If anyone at Ableton is reading this, PLEASE don't sell out to Apple! I know a lot of people who ran logic perfectly on pc's for years, even bought all the control surfaces, invested in Emagic for nearly a decade !!!!!! Then a strategic move by a "no less corporate than microsoft" (steve jobs is another rich playboy yank remember) company, in a desparate attempt to FORCE the ONLY still dedicated userbase (I work in graphics and a LOT of companies are switching to pc) to continue using their tupperware, SCREWED THEM.
I mean no disrespect to any mac users reading this, the industry tells you constantly that "you have to use a mac to make serious music" but this is blatently not the case.
I use macs all day at work I DREAD IT, horrible machines, always crashing, slow as hell (g4s) hard drives siezing on a regular basis. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not consider selling out. If you want to really innovate, be the first to port it to Linux instead. Check out the Agnula distro.
Sorry for the long rant (and brackets) but I found that thread really scarey.

Sorry, that was me ranting away and in my blind panic forgetting to log in.

you are trippin'

Dude, you are trippin' over a thread that is almost a year and a half old?

relax.

that being said, I wouldn't mind AT ALL if Apple bought Ableton.

If you were more aware of how Apple operates, you would see that they create windows software now (iTunes) and own companies that service both markets (mac & windows - i.e. filemaker, etc.).

If they could buy Ableton and ensure performance tweaking while still servicing a valuable PC market, that would be ideal. Obviously Ableton is a small company and more resources would help them in their development of the product.

BTW, saw the post that references americans as "yanks". Whatever. We prefer being called "cowboys". Thanks for listening.

:)

rob.

Sorry mate, I've no qualms about being called "Limey Bastard" for the record. Apple have a reputation for pulling pc support once they have "assimilated" a piece of software. I only just heard about the I-tunes thing, they obviously stand to make more money selling mp3 if they tap into the pc fraternity.
yeah, I'm a bit more relaxed now I realise how old that thread was.
BTW I live in Cornwall in the far south of England, and we tend to prefer sheep around here. Especially oiled up and wearing suspenders!

Hey Sixela,

any luck finding music applications for toddlers?

Just curious. As far as midi controllers the oxygen 8 is probably a good way to go.. has enough knobs and keys to fiddle with, durable yet "cheap" construction.

but if you find any good applications I'd love to know...

Sometimes I see things come up and think they look cool, but I've decided to just get them on with the real deal. My 7 yr. old son and 4 yr. old daughter find Live and the Powerbook to be perfectly intuitive. We have an Ozone and a Niche Automation Station. My son seems to be locked in a video game phase at the moment, but my daughter was raised on this. Since she was 2, she would tell me what to select in the session view, based on her favorite colors. But now she is good on the track pad, and gets nice smooth fades on the Niche. And they absolutely love my Yamaha CS01II portable analog, w/breath controller and mini keys. Perfect for them, and my favorite as well. It is mind blowing to me what power is at their fingertips. Greta will no doubt be posting here soon. Go kids!

Hi

not yet, I'd like to get him some all-round PC stuff as well, I'm sure I saw some sort of Kids Keyboard/mouse/trackball USB controller type thing with big colourful buttons for toddlers a while ago when he was too young to think about it, but seem to remember thinking, 'I must remember that', but of course, I didn't! Any ideas/websites highly welcome!

cheers

If the UK box is anything like the German box, it does have a tiny Ableton logo on it.
