Hey at least you make proper use of your vehicle.rtopia wrote: I can barely fit my Powerbook in the back of a Prius and the bus driver gets really pissed when I take more than one trip to board the bus.
People who make use of their larger vehicles are using them for their original intended design and build, not just "a ride" but unfortunetly this isn't the population that made the Ford F150 #1 best selling vehicle. I think we will see more efficient Hybrid SUV designs in the next few years, but who the fuck am I, Nostrodomus?
We need more light rails damn it, tear up these F&#^# highways and build some damn electric trains! (sorry, here in Texas all our transportation taxes go to contruction traffic)

That's funny, I just mentioned my parents were hippies in another thread. I don't know why the modern subculture think hippies are lame, it was the coolest their parents ever were. People make fun of others by calling them hippies, as if it were an insult. Anyway what the hell were we talking about, oh right, our corrupt government/corporate world.... just like our "lame" parents.Machinesworking wrote:My parents were hippies, can't really figure out why all other modern subcultures consider hippies lame? Then again my parents were smart hippies, and didn't become pot smoking yuppies in the eighties.....
My parents are still hippies, artists, whatever

Put the SUV up for sale and get one of these babies.....rtopia wrote:I'll gladly give up my SUV when someone figures a way to beam me and all of my gear to wherever the gig is.

It's not going to beam you there, but it'll hold a lot more stuff combined with a small car than just an SUV.

Sure, that will work. every day i drive to work with a trailer, it won't decrease my gas milage at all, and it won't take out my transmission quicker right? Small cars are of course designed with trailers in mind, no wear on the frame, or strain on the four banger, no worries about the old engine dying..... It's a great solution if you only need the space once or twice a month, but otherwise it's just as, if not more wasteful IMO.captain caveman wrote:Put the SUV up for sale and get one of these babies.....rtopia wrote:I'll gladly give up my SUV when someone figures a way to beam me and all of my gear to wherever the gig is.

I love how people get all one sided about issues like SUVs, DAWs, and platform, as if their choice is right for everyone.....

i boycotted exxon a long ass time ago
they spilled what? 11 million gallons of oil near my neighborhood
were ordered to pay punitive damages over 10 years ago...they've tied the whole thing up in court cases they constantly appeal and loose but dont PAY.
Exxon has been sued for 5 billion $$$$ and lost
and hasn't paid a single cent
they say they cleaned it, but you can still go to the beaches on Prince William Sound and find oil in the sand.
ruined peoples lives.
made record profits last year and still don't pay...what kind of criminals get to walk like that?
RICH ONES
our governor has given exxon tax breaks even tho they owe 5 billion dollars to the state and to the people who's lives they ruined by destroying part of the ecosystem

Hey man, I was suggesting that as an eco-friendly way for rtopia to get gear to his gigs a few times a month, not for your work!Machinesworking wrote:Sure, that will work. every day i drive to work with a trailer, it won't decrease my gas milage at all, and it won't take out my transmission quicker right? Obviously its people like you and me (btw - I have a car and a Vauxhall Combo van) that could argue more than most that an SUV is a practical choice for our situations. I could probably fit all my tools into the pick-up section of a Mistibuishi Warrior bad boy with tinted windows and Pimp my Ride rims, but I'm not going to (although I was drooling over one in AutoTrader only the other week
Anyway, we're all getting along on this side of the pond with engines half the size (as low as 995cc ( 0.9 litre )) as you guys and the countryside isn't full of cars stuck half way up hills cause they don't have the power to make it to the top. Its actually full of cars with engines as small as 1.6L towing big caravans and 2.0L vans shifting big loads with no hassles at all. And its probably the price of petrol over here that has meant this is the way engines have developed in our vehicles.
So maybe the increase in fuel prices over in the states will lead to an enforced change in thought by the car manufacturers and buyers which leads to similar size/consumption reduction in your cars too.
Everyone's a winner.

i love my hybrid civic! 43 mpg (over the first 8500 miles) 95 HP,can climb up the mountains around here fine (there steep to)
cold effects it tho, it gets much better gas per tank in the warmer weather.
i'v had to park my 1976 Dodge Xplorer moter home it gets like 7 mpg
but man that detroit 360 muscle still roars today!..would never believe a motorhome like that could move so quick

that ones not mine i have black stripes!

Mike, have you seen Oil on Ice? I wasn't aware of how bad the Exxon spill was until I watched that movie, ooohh it makes me angry. Bastards made money off of hurricane katrina/rita.... kinda ironic how after shit hit the fan they report record profits. It's proabably more a matter of engine life-span not being as high there. It's probably more cost efficient to change out a small engine every few years than to pay 5+ dollars for gas, makes sense.captain caveman wrote: Anyway, we're all getting along on this side of the pond with engines half the size (as low as 995cc ( 0.9 litre )) as you guys and the countryside isn't full of cars stuck half way up hills cause they don't have the power to make it to the top. My van gets pretty good milage though, at 18-24 mpg. tha Pathfinder is a pig compared.... I'm getting diesel vehicles when I can afford to,(they are expensive around here) and going biodiesel next.....

yeah the laws...but the courts said we need an ammendment to the state constitution...and that will take a public vote to lessen our right to privacy inside or home. so any laws the assembly pass right now will be just like the existing law set in 1990 (illeagal). The courts are fimly backing the peoples right on this (for the moment anyway)!

they make money pumping oil because we're using it at a record pace. they made money from hurricane katrina because production was down and the demand increased. that's what we call 'supply and demand.' they had to tap into reserves and they needed to make sure those reserves lasted, so the price went up.glu wrote:Mike, have you seen Oil on Ice? let's not forget that 40% of the price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline goes to the government. 40%. i think another 45% is the actual cost of drilling / refining / etc and 15% is for advertising and profit. so, think about that. say a gallon of gas is $1. big oil makes 60 cents, of which 15 is profit. the goverment on the other hand, makes 40 cents for doing squat, for existing. you think big oil's making money, the us government is making money hand over fist. and where does it go? we just had to increase the national debt to what, like $8 trillion? think about that the next time you're in the voting booth.
