VST Plugin Routing : Problem or Intended behaviour?

Post by Pasha » Sun Apr 16, 2006 8:32 am

Hi,
I'm an owner of both Live 5.2 and IK Multimedia Expansion Tank Omnisinth that comes with SampleTank LE VST Plug-in.
The Plugin is capable (you can download the SampleTank 2.1 XL Free version) of 8 stereo outputs.

VST Plugin Setup:
MIDI Channel 1 : Piano (Out 1+2)
MIDI Channel 2 : Bass (Out 3+4)
MIDI Channel 3 : Strings (Out 5+6)

Live 5.2 Setup:
Track 1 Impulse
Track 2 Routed to VST Track Midi Channel 1 (MIDI Track)
Track 3 Routed to VST Track Midi Channel 2 (MIDI Track)
Track 4 Routed to VST Track Midi Channel 3 (MIDI Track)
Track 5 This Track holds the VST plugin and output is 1+2 (default)
Track 6 This Track takes Audio from Track 5 stereo output 2 (3+4) (Audio Track)
Track 7 This Track takes Audio from Track 5 stereo output 3 (5+6) (Audio Track)

All Live Output for all tracks is routed to Master.
What I found strange is that to hear sound form tracks 6&7, I have to set monitor to in.
This is the only way to have separate control and Live Effects addition to VST outputs.
This allows me to render to disk to as well.

Is this the intended behaviour?
I would have expected not to set Monitor to In in order to listen.

That's correct. 6 & 7 are actually getting their audio IN from another channel. So it makes sense, no?

Thanks for reply!
I'm used to 'real' gear...
In a real Mixer you will plug a cable from one output to an input. No need to press any monitor button.... Monitor is often used to pre-listen something...
