what exactly is freezing a track doing that makes it takes up more resources than bouncing to a track and disabling everything on the previous track? I thought this is what freezing was suppose to do for you -- automatically in the background???
It still takes up resources in memory, minor as they might be, when you have alot of frozen tracks, it winds up adding up. I don't have time to get into it at this point, but if you're really interested in finding out why, it's already been hashed, and rehashed in previous posts:

in arranger view, consolidating helps free up a little CPU for me. also, as mentioned earlier, rendering a complex warped clip and putting it in beat mode really helps, expecially if the clip you have is part of a larger wav file. It sucks to have to do all these work arounds, especially when you are exploding with inspiration...but I am hoping live 6 will address this once dual and quad cores become the norm. We should be liberal with FX and impulse tracks and have no worries... its the one reason why hardware is still a part of my set up.

Someone mentioned about changing the cpu % in Pref from 50% to 80%. I thought that only mattered when you were setting up your latency. But I would do it and I never could tell a difference.

someone mentioned that Live turns of HT when it starts.. well I had 1.5 years of nightmare problems with Live until I turned off Hyperthreading from the BIOS. So obviously something is amiss.

Secondly, maybe, just maybe you can get some more CPU if you try the little utility I made for turning Live into your windows shell. Do a searc for it and if you can't find it give me a shout.

ive turned it off. it hasnt made any real difference at this stage, but it could make a diffence in another set depending on the combination of plug and fx etc. so ill see how we go from here.
