The difference of sound in audio interfaces.

Hi,
When I just bought my EMU 1820M, and coming from a SBLive! my life changed. The sound was so clear, so detailed now. I could hear reverb tails that I didn't even know existed. It was beautiful.

I also have an M-Audio FW410 and recently got an echo Indigo DJ for laptop usage. From my first impressions, i dare to say that the sound of the Indigo DJ is clearer than the FW410.

What are your impressions regarding sound of different audio interfaces? What are your experiences?
Turn up the radio. Turn up the tape machine. Look into the sunset up ahead. Roll the windows down for a better taste of the cool desert wind. Ah yes. This is what it's all about. Total control now.

i went from a 410 to a metric halo 2882+dsp, the difference was all I hoped it would be. the 410, when it decides to work, sucks the life out of the audio (but what do you expect eh?...). Of course alot of people are happy with it, but alot of people are happy with polaroids too. Aside from getting into the real nitty gritty of sound & interface possibilities, there is this simple reason I am happy with the metric halo....whatever sound I feed into it, it preserves and spits back at me. I'm feeding it analogue distortions, with alot of 'organic' bass present. Fantastic. thats almost all that I want. Using an outboard mixer to monitor synth signals before they go into live via the metric, I compare what live then spits out...and I cant find the difference......

ol...not getting in to the 410 vs other interfaces discussion, it all comes down to the quality of the D/A-converter and your monitors... Its that simple... You want a ´pro´ sound, spend the money! Theres a big difference between FW410 for $360 and Metric Halo 2882 for $2200. IMHO its sometimes better to do the arranging and the art on your whatever-dollar ´not-pro´ soundcard and spent money on tracking/mixing and recording, i.e vocals, in a studio instead. Depends on what type of music you make perhaps...

Anyway, the metric also looks cool...maybe I need one of those babies too...

You are comparing 24 bit to 24 bit, right? I would say that my Echo Indigo IO (carbus) sounds different, 'brighter/sparklier' than my Tascam US122. Both sound good and are relatively problem free. It is the case that I seem to be able to get a hotter output level from my Tascam USB (which also does midi) and of course better latency with the Echo.

I am considering moving up to an iface with more ins/outs, holding out for the fireface 400....

But definately right: The Metric Halo 2882 is an incredible Interface! Heard that some engineers even prefered them over Apogges! Had no chance to comapre them, but I think I will not change, because I am happy with the MIO 2882! It is my sound!
Live, Cubase, Microbute, FA-06, various outboard, guitars, basses and a lot of wine in my cellar ;)
