Sending a CC value with each note
Sending a CC value with each note
What is the best way to send a MIDI CC value with the trigger of each note within a MIDI loop? It gets kind of hairy trying to do so by drawing an envelope, especially since I want the same value to be resent with each note.
When drawing an envelope, it seems to only send the CC value when the values change (and when the loop starts over again). Any good way to either have the same value resend either with each note trigger or periodically every beat (or 1/2 beat, quarter beat, etc.)?

Welcome!
I had this problem using CCs for video and lighting. Live won't send the same CC value if it has already sent it. Have your CC value jump for a tiny amount of time to a different value (+1 will do it) and back. MIDI map the MIDI clip with the CC values, and trigger it via the IAC bus (or the peecee equivalent).
Hope that helps!

The IAC bus is the built-in Mac 'virtual' MIDI interface. I think the PC equivalent is MIDI-OX, among others.
Create a MIDI clip with your CC value in it. Now MIDI map that clip so a MIDI note launches it. You can launch this clip with a MIDI keyboard, but it becomes much more powerful if you let Live launch it with another clip.
Now create another MIDI track, with the output set to the virtual MIDI interface. Make sure that the virtual MIDI interface is set in MIDI Prefs as an active Remote device. Make a MIDI clip in this new track with the same note that you assigned to the CC clip.
Now, when you launch the clip in the second track, it fires the CC clip in the first track. It's as if you routed the first track out to a MIDI interface, then right back into Live into the second track. It's just done 'virtually' with the IAC driver on a Mac.
Shitty explanation, I know! Once you grasp the concept of launching clips and scenes with other clips, and throw in Follow Actions, you can do some awesome lighting and video stuff with Live. One clip can launch many clips, or even many scenes.

OK I had to read thru that three times, but now I totally get it.. The one last question I have though is.. that first MIDI clip with my CC msg in it.. is this an empty MIDI clip with no notes and a nudge on the CC envelope? Or does Live require there to be at least one note trigger in the clip for it to send CC msg's.
If it's the latter, I suppose that it could just be an inconsequential note that does nothing (in my setup) while a separate clip is triggering the note i am truly intending for the CC msg's to affect.
It would ultimately be nice if they rewrote Live so that anytime you make a keyframe dot on the envelope it sends the CC value at that moment regardless of if it changed or not.

No note required in the clip. The CC is enough.
I've got 500+ of these things for lighting and video!
It's useful for sending CCs to an Arkaos effect that requires multiple CCs for effect control. Make a bunch of individual CC clips, then use an IAC chord to launch them all simultaneously. It's a lot more useful than having to put them all in one scene, and launching the scene. In fact, I have 4 Live MIDI tracks for launching Arkaos keys, and 12 Live tracks for CCs. I use the same 12, so I can re-use my CC clips over and over. Save them as Live clips, and you can just drag 'n drop.
Have fun! You can do some awesome stuff, but it does take some organization. Excel to the rescue!

Hi guys:
It's an old story though I think it was useful. Try to figure it out but still had some problems get things work.
Shouldn't I set the MIDI From of the first track to MIDI Yoke Input?
I can see the EXT MIDI in/out message lights shining after I done this but still not work!
Any help will be very appcreciate~

I use "MIDI Yoke" for the virtual MIDI interface on PC.hambone1 wrote: Now create another MIDI track, with the output set to the virtual MIDI interface. Make sure that the virtual MIDI interface is set in MIDI Prefs as an active Remote device.
Does this mean: Put a note (the same MIDI mapping note in first clip or slot) in the sequence of the second clip? I did this after all.hambone1 wrote: Make a MIDI clip in this new track with the same note that you assigned to the CC clip.
I had tried this X times but nothing happen to the first CC clip.hambone1 wrote: Now, when you launch the clip in the second track, it fires the CC clip in the first track.
