Imac G5 experiencing cpu issues with Ableton Live 5

Hi All,

I own an iMac g5 with a 2 ghz processor and 2 gigs of ram. I use an m-audio fast-tracker and an edirol pcr-30 controller keyboard.

Ableton Live 5 (not the new intel one) just doesn't seem to want to run well on my system.

I've turned off the power saver feature...partitioned my hard drive...turned off any other running processes...but still, even a half dozen audio clips click and pop when they cycle in loop mode - with no effects attached!

I know this program is cpu intensive...but could it be THAT intensive?

I'm thinking I must be doing something wrong or that my system is still somehow not optimized.

Any help is appreciated!

Sounds very strange! Might be some problems with you audio interface (too low latency? faulty?) rather than CPU power.

Try the Live 5 performance test and benchmark against other similar computers. Search for "Live 5 performance test " in the General forum.

I'm quite new to this but I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to rid my PC of clicks in audio loops - and all of the usual tips didn't ie partitioning, new drivers, putting the old RAM back, IRQ conflicts etc.

I don't have as much RAM as 2 gig but my problems stopped when I selected the RAM button in the audio loop - my hard drive was to slow to stream the sample every 4 bars.

I automatically assumed the sample was loaded into the RAM and its not the case.

I suggest you try that - if you are getting clicks on midi tracks then as above, it could be latency.

ensure processor performance is on high not automatic in the OS X > Preferences > Energy Saver panel.

Sometimes the automatic processor cycling can fall over in os x with some software.
