Ableton Live DJ Studio!!

Post by claudek » Thu Oct 30, 2003 11:05 am

This would I think be the best Dj Studio for any DJ..I know many Dj's think or use Ableton Live now but ain't really made for it..But what if Ableton really made a serious Dj pro Studio..this would eb MAD!!
Live has a name for stability so any Dj would not be at all afraid..
I could imagine similar simple GUI, grahics & design to Live..but up to 8 decks/crossfader..custom layouts (faders horzontal or vertical) many of the same FX that live has (Delay, EQ,Verb, maybe a stutter,Flanger,Scratcher, maybe a virtual deck for scrathing?? and a sampler module..like Pioneer 600) ..Elastic audio for easy timing, VST support..
Full midi support like Live..Supports Audio or Mp3..Rewire Support and more..G4 optimized versions..
WOW!!..
Now do it Ableton!!

I think Live would benefit from a few more years of development before Ableton move on.

live has a child, it's been fostered by steinberg and called remix.

I don't know, I'm still reeling from the shock of live 3 and how much it's just completely ruined my life by preventing me from doing anything else.

I'm sitting here day after day wondering how there can ever be a need for anything else again.

clip automation?? real time??? no, still doesn't sound believable.

Claudek, doesn't Live already have all of this? Each Row of clips is like a deck and we already have a cross fader. All of the faders in the clip row are just that, vertical faders. You can assign all of this to your midi controller and operate live just like you had multiple decks. Also, I believe the three band eq in v3 can be assigned to midi control so just drop one of those in each active clip row and control them remotely. If you have a sound card that supports multiple outputs you can run lines out into seperate channels on your dj mixer, like rows 1-3 assigned to channel one on your mixer, 4-6 channel two, 7-9 channel three. I have not done this yet but I believe it is possible. I play records as well and I have to say, in my opinion, it would be a bit redundent for Ableton to develop a dj stidio.

the child called traktor 2.5

it is now possible to sync traktor to live via midiclock. this combination really rocks 8O

songs played from traktor, loops and samples or realtim fx to traktor via live

A lot of times, especially with dance music, four four, breaks, etc. it is easy to just throw in a short loop, or use click, and adjust the warp markers by changing the tempo. Just click your mouse over the clip tempo and drag up and down to adjust, watch the warp markers - they should line up with the beginning of the wave forms. Do this untill your clip is in sync. Don't forget to save the changes to your clip by hitting save in the clip window. This is nondestructuve and will not permanantly alter your loops, or tracks.

Look at Richie Hawtin, he Dj's regularly using Ableton and final scratch. That dude is on an entirely different level. I believe DE-9, closer to the edit, or whatever it was called was done this way and I can honestly say that is one of the best CD's in my collection.

Anything is possible, it is just a mater of mastering the software/hardware/instrument so it's use becomes intuitive to you. Then it becomes an extension of yourself and is no longer cumbersome. Then you are truly free to create.

I may reach that level in about fifty years or so! email djwildstyle, he claims to be beyond that point and taking it to the next!

Wildstyle is definitely your guy, I can't tell you how much I've learned from him on this forum. If you get a chance, ask him about the New World Order stuff. Really fascinating.

With all due respects to anyone in this thread asking for Live to incorporate "DJ-like/serious DJ" features - spend a little more time with Live and you will most likely find that Live offers every type of functionality you might want, though generally on such a higher lever that it may not seem immediately apparent.

Live wants for almost nothing.

Live has eliminated the great dividion between disparate tempos and pitch.

Live now will become simply something beyond any rational reckonimg.

There is no critique of Live.

As of Live 3, it is beyond reproach. It simply is. Clip reverse will come. Controller suppert will come. It will all happen as Ableton will see fit, as they have so far proved themselves to have the biggest clue in a world of pro audio companies seemingly determined to make software complicated, unreliable, and limited.

I guess this is the Live forum so I don't need to tell anyone how great it is.

But I just did. Oh well.
