Akai MPD 24, Korg Padkontrol or Triggerfinger?

Post by rbro » Sun Apr 23, 2006 4:17 am

Just seeing the Akai online for the first time today. Anyone tried all 3? Opinions?

MPD 24 - http://www.akaipro.com/prodMPD24.php

Padkontrol - http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?a_pro ... egory_id=8

Triggerfinger - http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/T ... -main.html

They can all be had online for about $199. I was just about to jump on the PK, but the Akai looks pretty sweet.........

im looking at getting the akai too. that would be PERFECT for gigs. just the right balance of knobs and faders, and ample pads! if the response of the pads is good, i may pick up 2 of these. one for the studio and one for gigs.
Self-hating american.

Yea, go for the Akai, the pads feel better than the TF ones, it has more and better quality faders and endless rotarys (well not usefull for everything).

I have tried all three. PadKontrol all the way...

If anyone wants to buy two TriggerFingers then shoot me a PM.

What didn't you like about the Akai?

One of the problems with the Akai is that you only get 4 banks of pads.
4x16= 64 things you can map.

With the PadKontrol, you get 16 banks.
16x16= 256 things you can map.

The Akai just doesn't have enough banks for me...

That said, Trigger Finger would be my LAST choice, even after the bare-bones Akai MPD-16 (which I currently have and would like to sell - PM me if interested).

Nothing - the Akai is a great controller. The PadKontrol is just stellar!

Some people (the mpc crowd esp) will be fond of the new Akai - it has the chunkiness of an akai product, and some very nice features - the transport controls and such.

The PadKontrol has much much softer pads - not all that high resolution in the low velocities, but an awesome response. If you like the rigidity of the TriggerFinger but just want a bit better triggering you should go with the Akai, I think.

Hey machinate ( or anyone else whos used the MPD 24 )--

Just wondering if the MPD pads are the same as the akai mpc pads. Really like the feel of the MPC pads, tried out the Korg PadKontrol, i know everyone will disagee with me but didnt think the Korg pads were anything special( though they burn the Trigger Fingers Pads ). im waiting to try out the akai pads before i choose which one will replace my triggerfinger..
thanks.....

the MPD 24 pads are the same as the ones on the new MPC 2500. They had them side-by-side at MusikMesse.

Oh doubt... I love the feel of Akai pads, but looking at the specs, the KontrolPad seems more flexible on routing, etc. Is that right?
In terms of Live control, wich one of thos two has the greatest range for assignment Live features, such as clip triggering, FX and VSTis tweaking?
I'm trying to figure out what controllers should I buy for maximum manipulation... Till now i found the MPD24 or PadKontrol alongside with a BCR 2000. But the Novation Remote SL25 also seems to be great.
any advice?
best,

No, they both simply transmit midi. All the routing will be done internally in Live

The Akai wins in number of features - knobs and (very very nice) faders.
