what is up with live's CPU utilization?? seriously!! READ

1. Increase your audio card buffer size in steps up (There measured in samples) then save the settings on the software for your card.

2. Go into Ableton 5.2 and then go to the drop down menu at the top and click preferences then click the audio tab. Look at the settings section under over all latency there will be a box there where you can adjust the total latency in milliseconds (MS) switch it back to 0 ms.

I have to say that the cpu meter was never really an issue for me. I bought live at version 4 and as far as I can remember things were generally okay. didn't bounce to audio, had a pentium 4 with 512 ram.
Now live 5.2. Novation X station with ASIO drivers, Pentium M 1.7 with 1gb ram. Absolute nightmare at times!!! Had to freeze 5 tracks which then buggered up when writing to disc and I lost the set as it was marked as corrupt.
I know there are a whore range of variables here:-
Effects used, VST's used etc, but I'm pretty sure that I haven't started using more Effects etc than when I started. And surely now that my audio processing is better (ASIO an all) things should be flying.
But i get 80 and 90 percent cpu and things just grind like nothing else and (not wanting to be all wishy washy) it breaks my heart!! live is a wonderful tool to use (okay a bit querky midi editing a times) and when you get to the point of being SO frustrated that you hate it, even for a second, it is a real shame.
I just hope the Ableton guys can pull something out of the bag and get it working more efficiently.
Not only do the users deserve it, but the concept does too. It's a cracking tool/instrument that needs to have its full potential realised and fulfilled.
Come on Ableton.

ableton are playing the waiting game - waiting for more horsepower by utilising dual cores at last in live 6. Sadly thats no way to improve the coding. But it will perpetuate buying more and more ram/cpu. which i suppose is a good thing if you rub shoulders with ceo types.
