Live DJ template. - open source stylé -

Post by womoma » Sun Apr 30, 2006 2:52 pm

Hey.

For those of you who actually like sharing your tips.

Im hoping we can get a "chain template" going. A DJ set template for Live which will be improved as more users tweak it.

Ive made a template DJ set for Live to get the ball rolling. It is orientated towards house and pop kinda stuff.
It consists of a cue track, loops, impulse, decks A and B both of which have channels for dummy clips. It can be found here:

*
UPDATED! - current version here:
------version 1-------
http://www.womoma.com/files/template1.zip
*

please read the most recent posts for version info..

If you download and improve it please put your file up and let us know in this thread. Please also make some suggestions for the next version.

Suggestions for version 2:
Better limiter/eq/compression settings on channels and master etc.
More/better impulse beats.
More/better dummy clips.

Just curious what the rediculous feedback that occurs when you load up this template? I had to turn down two faders so as to get rid of the feedback to figure out the configuration of the template. Is there suppose to be some benefit from this?

Thanks for checkin out the template.

Its spelt "ridiculous" just kidding.

It sounds fine here, anyways, the answer is no-- I SUCK at the whole eq/compression settings part, hence the suggestion for version 2.

Perhaps you would have a go at improving on version 1. Id love to get this to version 5 or 6 where it becomes a very solid template.

cheers

Anyone gonna improve on it? come on guys. :)

this idea will never work. everyone's template is different and dependant on their hardware and any routing that might be going on there or between software.

perhaps if we all had the exact same hardware and software

I was thinking people would stick to stuff within Live for the sake of this experiment.. No offence but I think its a good idea, if nothing else, a learning excercise. Hopefully someone will add to it.

Can you explain what those dummy clips are supposed to do?

Also, there are some files missing on opening...

Sorry I thought everyone used Dummy clips for DJing. The dummy clips put automatic effects on the tracks in the corrisponding deck, A or B. [They are routed to the dummy clips audio track]

Try it- play "DRY" on dummy track A while you play a tune in deck A, then play the different dummy clips for wacky effects on your tune.

just so everyone knows:
dummy clip "DRY" must be playing to have all effects off

Stinky- the file missing was my dummy clip- you need to insert a silent sample, say 5 seconds of silence in there on all clips. As far as I know there is no way around this.
*Ive updated the template file to be a folder with the dummy clip included.

Feedback is sorted. Dummy clips by the way are excellent and I reccommend you try them if you havent already.
Regarding the pre made beats, they are simply to compliment the tunes youre playing on A and B.

Its fixed. I removed the compressers- Ill let someone who knows about DJ compression to look after that. I used a utility so all the sliders can be maxxed and it should hit about 0db there.

Someone have a stab at version 2? PLEEZ :)

if all dj templates shared in this manner were compliant to mackie control, then just about any controller could work with the templates due to the recent influx of global, controller independent Mackie Controller emulation.

good call! That's a good idea for v2: Mackie control compliance.

i forgot to mention:

If youre gonna update it, please remember to save the live set self contained.

Also we can include samples and kits but obviously it would be best to try to keep the filesize reasonable.

Oh and also, maybe if someones gonna do a new version, perhaps they can make a post in advance, so would-be improvers can wait for the new version. Im not sure how best to work that, but you get the idea.
