PDC, Rewire, UAD

Post by Tosh » Mon May 01, 2006 6:59 am

Hello Follks,

Has that Reason Rewire problem with PDC been fixed in 5.2?

I am looking at purchasing a UAD card which looks like it will need PDC to work properly.

I always work by having Reason rewired to Ableton. I haven't hit this snag lately coz i've minimized the amount of vts's I use.

Cheers.

No it hasn't.

But remember this isn't a problem with rewire inputs. Its a problem with the way Live controls rewired Reason. If you use Reason with Live and don't use Live to control Reason via Live's midiclips, then you won't have a problem.

What you will find though, is that if you try and control Reason like you would control any other VSTi, then you will find the midi data piped to Reason delayed by an undefinable amount.

There's a sort of workaround using track delays, but this doesn't work properly on any clocked Reason devices like the matrix sequencer.

This is a complex issue obviously otherewise it would have been fixed by now. For now, the only way to get Reason in sync with Live is to use Reason's own sequencer for Reason rack devices.

I have no idea how this would affect any connected UAD effect though.

Thanks for the info.

That looks ok then as I don't use live to control reason.

I've just run a test with a couple of loops with some plugs and it looks like it will be fine.

I just recall a while back running something and it getting out of sync... maybe i was using live's midi clips at the time but i just can't remember.

I've read that the uad card/plugs introduce latency thats why i was concerned about the rewire issue as i'm contemplating whether i should buy the card and its plugs

thanks.
