UAD DSP and Plugs

Post by Tosh » Mon May 01, 2006 10:01 am

Hello all,

I'm thinking of purchasing the uad card and it's plugs to use within live with reason rewired..

Any people here have experience with the two.

Any tips/tricks/pitfalls would be much appreciated.

Regards - tosh.

I would not buy a uad card nowadays.
Its because of pci that is disappearing.

Instead i would look at this:

im buying my second card..i really dont give a whut about new developments in that sense cuz
the sound it gives are fat n tight..the la2a, LN1176, cambridge eq and pulteq is the shizzle..

if u really want to push your mixes to another level uad IS the shit..powercore may be fine but the plugs u have to buy are steep.

if i had to choose one thing that was my best bye ever its UAD-1, the time you spend noodling around with other plugs are gone and your mixes sounds way way better..

what u have to consider tho is if u are on a mac lappy u need a magma chasis wich are fuked up pricey..otherwise DO It u will not regret

Why isn't UAD releasing a Firewire version of their card?

I read somewhere that UAD cards were not compatible with the latest PCIE mobos, is that true?

I really don't know what to do, get an UAD1 (many plugins) or a LiquidMix (less plugins, but more juice, external controller and FW).
Studio Electronics ATC1, Access Virus TI, Roland TR-8, Mackie Onyx 1220i, Novation SL mk2, Midisport4*4 AE / amd ryzen 1600x, 16gb DDR4, windows10 64bits

Sad but true, In fact I bought a Echo Indigo Card to guy with my new Laptop that uses PCIe. Only to find out they are incompatible. My own fault for not reading more thoroughly. But sometimes you just assume. So now I am the proud owner of a never used Echo Indigo DJ Card, and can't use it. UAudio might make new cards, Motu has already started to offer replacements for some of their products that use PCI.

Speaking of DSP cards, check out Scope from CreamWare, I have a powercore mkII that I mainly got for to run the unlimited virus plugin, but I'm thinking about getting the Scope pro, 14 DSP chips (powercore has 4 DSPs) and you get ton's of effects and synth plugins with it, they have a dealer near me so I'm going to go check it out.

Anyone have any experience with the Scope cards?

A buddy recently purchased the UAD pack and it is very good sounding. I was so impressed I went on the hunt for some plugs that were similar but without the PCI card.

I found the Nomad Factory plugs were just as kick ass if not more because of their CPU friendlyness. And I could use them on my laptop as well as my main desktop studio setup.

I purchased the Analog Signature pack.

IMO the UAD has kind of become old tech now that the computers you can buy today are so powerful, although the sound of the plugs is still top notch.

You may also want to check out the Creamware SCOPE platform. It has great effects - and also great synths - included. And it is an audio and MIDI in/out card with excellent specs (including very low latency operation).

I have been very happy with the system running in XTC mode (with a couple of minor adjustments) - which allows you to use the effects and synths as VST inserts. It also has a mode that essential works outside of Live (almost like an external mixer and effects rack - but all still running inside your computer.)

Check it out at http://scope.creamware.de/ - or visit the user forum at www.planetz.com

Ya that looks like the shizzle.

I have to look into these Nomad plugs. I would like to do my own A/B's to my UAD card.

Well I just took a look at the channel strip from the analog signature series from nomad. It sounds very good indeed. But putting it beside the 1106SE compressor on from the UAD card I have to say that I think the 1176 sounds better. This is a matter of taste though. It just always seems that getting what I want comes VERY fast with the UAD 1176. The nomad has much more going on than the 1176 so I guess if your looking for more of a sound design tool then you may be able to get more out of the Nomad Studio Channel. The CPU to performance was good as well. I personaly will be sticking with my UAD for at least a wile longer. Also just a moment ago i got a newsletter anouncing that there is 15% off all there plugins for all of may! So there ya go. Also ...

"The May webzine will go live on May 20th, to coincide with the opening of the European AES show in Paris. The May issue will be packed with exciting new product announcements, tips, tricks and support information, so don’t miss it. Make sure you’re signed up to receive e-news bulletins."

New products from UAD it seems just around the corner.

Sorry, but isn't that Nomad comp based on the Fairchil, not the 1176? Considering my UAD is on ebay now, these Nomad plus interest me greatly!
