if your running tiger you can help your system by disabling the dashboard (widgets) and spotlight with this free app http://d-t-f.sourceforge.net/ dashboard and spotlight take up cpu. this will increase the overall performance of your computer.

Disabling dashboard helps. Disabling spotlight just takes functionality out of the OS.

yeah i wasn't going to disable spotlight, don't feel like searching my thousands of emails manually...
