copy and paste problems

Sometimes i want to take a piece of some midi line, and copy it to another slot. I "copy" double click on the slot, hit paste, but it pastes like at -3 or -4 or somewhere wierd like that. i just want it to paste with the first note on 1. Anyone else have this problem? anyone know how i can FOR THE LOVE OF GOD MAKE IT STOP DOING THIS!!! thanks.
