First Impressions
I just started using Live 3.0 and it is truly a remarkable piece of software, very powerful and very intuitive and the time stretching algorythms are superb.it is working great with Rewire and Logic 6.3.1. That said there are glaring deficiencies IMHO that should be addressed.
1. Better integration i.e. between Session and Arrnagement. Why not have the ability to open two views and drag and drop?
2. The waveform in Warp mode with the Arrangement view should chase throughout playback without the user having to drag throught the waveform.
3. There ought to be a way to allow the waveform to take up more screen real estate. I have dual monitors and cannot take advantage of it the way I can in Logic, DP, Cubase, etc. I realize that these are very differnt programs.
4. Inserting meter changes in the Arrangement view should be possible by going to a measure and typing it in.
That said, once again, Live 3.0 is amazing and i am really glad I bought it.

Okay. Without sounding too much like an asshole, I'd like to remark how obnoxious it is when people either a) request things that have been requested 500 billion times (like VSTI support) or b) request things that are already present in the software.
Moving on, you can in fact drag and drop between session and arrangement. grab your clip, drag it to the arrangement (or session) icon in the uper right, and you will switch to the other view with the clip still selected.
Secondly, you can press the arrow icon on the upper right of the GUI in arranger mode and you will automatically follow the song position pointer.
Your second two points are more interesting:

I wholeheartedly agree with you about #4 (could be expanded to include tempo changes as well). #3 I have not had any personal need for, and have not heard anyone else complaining about it either. [I assume that you know you can zoom in on the waveform, right?] Try using fullscreen mode, too. Or getting a bigger monitorAshermusic wrote: 3. 1. First of all as a member of other boards I hear your frustration about having to read questions or requests that are redundant but I browsed the forum first and did not see mine so I guess you will just have to live with it.
2. I know about the relationship you are describing between Session and Arrangement view but it still is not as convenient as opening both views and dragginmg and dropping like I would like.
3. I have 2 17" monitors. It would be great to be able to drag the waveform to one of them and have the waveform horizontally fill the screen. I am using Warp points to make 4 minute pieces with tempo changes conform to a single tempo and the small waveform display makes it much harder than it would be if my suggestion could be implemented.
4. I am glad that you agree with me on this. Not all of us write music that is only in one meter and starts right on the downbeat. Two of the people who recommended Live to me nonetheless mentioned this deficiency.
Your point 2 & 3 I think are a bit against the basic principle of Live that delivers everything in one screen without several windows.
I can understand your point though, but in this respect you must not forget that Live is/was conceived as a Live application, and not many of us will betaking our 2 17' on stage ...

Point taken. Because if its time stretching ability i am using Live for a purpose that was not it's primary design imperative.
Keep cool everyone...
A little message for aggressive people on this subject : a forum is not a place to vomit your frustrations on others. I say this because I read an aswer of m-labs full of disrespect. M-labs, if you think you know everything about Live, don't come here anymore, your way of answering is really unpleasant and aggressive. And don't ask yourself if you're an asshole or not, because the tone you're using to answer is a little asshole one, that's all I have to say. Let's talk seriously now... Ashermusic is pointing at a very interesting subject : what is the best interface for a music software ? I'm Live user nearly since it's available. I'm using it live and also in the arrangement mode. In a Live context, one screen is sufficient, I agree, except if you're using Reason or another software in Rewire mode at the same time (last time I did so live, I was really happy to have two screens, believe me, it's much more comfortable and efficient), but while arranging, expanding Live on two screens could be a real pleasure. If you see quickly everything you need, you work faster, that's a fact, and while arranging, you need to see more things, and a bigger view of the clip could really help in this purpose, especially while modifying warp markers...
Thanks for this very interesting suggestion, ashermusic, and again, m-labs, go vomit elsewhere, it will make my day. Sorry to insist, but I really don't like unpolite people, and I'm sure I'm not the only one on this forum.

and another thing...
...I too am using Live for what it was originally intended, however I am slowly finding myself spending more time doing things I have previously been doing in Sonar.
I am finding that Live is indeed a very versitile application and to limit it's potential by pigeon holeing it to a "live only" applicaton is perhaps a shortcoming in attitude.
I encourage the developers to keep the original direction of development , yet to openly consider enriching the many facets discovered and explored by the end users, because isn't that what this is all about, the end user?

I was simply saying that it's irritating to read things that have been requested a lot or that are already in the software. You're the one pointing me out by name, exaggerating my behavior, and essentially telling me to leave the forum. Who's being the asshole now?loo909 wrote:A little message for aggressive people on this subject : a forum is not a place to vomit your frustrations on others. Regardless, my answer was not full of disrespect. I sincerely considered each and every one of his points.
Perhaps you didn't consider mine.

(and btw, I meant NO disrespect here or in my original message, my sincere apologies if it was taken that way)

Hello!
I think to have the two views on 1 screen could be a plus.
The session on top, arranger in the middle and fx on bottom (or no fx).
So you could easely record in session view and work in arranger view, it´s better for the workflow when you can see what you are recording!
Greetings!
