I've got about 20 names.. All are pretty first rate and unique.. I'm getting alot better at coming up with dope names that have meaning.. But in the begginning the names i went by i thought were ok at the time, but looking back on them they're cak..

I'm very happy with the names i go by at the minute i can only see the current list having more names added over time but i can't see any of the current ones loosing their edge at all..

I dunno just sit and try and create names derived from personal experience or actions you've taken in your life.. Nowadays names just come to me that i'll use in music, but in the beggining i wrote a list of about 20 and picked the best one.. Invaluable really cos my most prominant name consists of some elements of the first one.

I just like to see quality musicians/DJs/actors/whatever proud enough to use their own names without the insecurity and need to hide behind an alias.

Tell that to a John Smith or Bill Edwards

I think you shoud come up with something that sounds clever, catchy, but avoid the DJ prefix. killahertz, loopytunes, blitzfish,

joesapo wrote:How did you guys come up with your DJ / PA names?

Been rolling through a few myself, but haven't settled on one yet.

Me = More PA, less DJ, so I don't really wanna be "DJ Handjob" or whatever...

And I dunno, looking up the latest Hawking quote and being "QuantumFluxSingularity" sounds kinda gay too.

Thoughts?

(Apologies to DJ Handjob and QuantumFluxSingularity, if you guys are on this forum)
I think 'More PA, Less DJ' is awesome for a name :P

I did that for a couple of years, and I really preferred it. However, I soon realized that with a very uncommon real name, I became very googlable. I don't like that. The Internet is a freaky place, and I don't like to be tracked easily. It's not really paranoia, my "day job" employer doesn't like it if our colleagues and clients google me and find a bunch of music stuff. Bad for the image I suppose. So, I HAD to get a stage name.

I had to delete about 80 or 100 posts as montrealbreaks because they contained a reference to my real name, and that wasn't acceptable.

I'm in a weird spot see

I was born with the name in 1975

but there's a certain acid house producer who gets all my respect that was born a few years before me, put out some pretty important acid house records and to this day holds a spot in the elite 10 producers of the world

so when a friend asked me what I want for credits on a track I was like I'd love to just be

Adonis but then I'd get asked all kinds of questions and friend requests on Myspace because they thought I was someone else

I do dj yes - my first love - and my name is Adonis yes

so Dj Adonis - even though my handle on Ableton is djadonis206

that's cause I'm a DJ my names Adonis and I live in the 206

sometimes you'll see me as Teknolife <--- but that's for internet use only

I'm kinda in the same boat as you. Joe is my real first name, but Sapo is just the first part of my real last name - which as you could probably guess is very easy to find.

I wouldn't mind so much, except for my mafia connections... ;)

I did manage to dream up a decent name last night: 15bit

Sounds nice, plus it denotes that I lost a bit somewhere - which isn't that far from the truth. Is it too corny or what?

Wow... That was cold.

Hard to believe somebody with no imagination could be a successful musician.

Yeah, definately.

It's a long shot, but I gotta try...

To whomever registered the username 15bit:

Would you please be a gentleman and transfer the account to me? If you want, I can help you come up with a name that is more fitting to your persona. Here are some examples:

The Plagiariza
U.N. Original
Dan the Imitator
DJ Done Before

And there are plenty more where that came from!

Mods; can you guys help me out? I seriously doubt this luser is ever going to use this account.

I reverted to cashman (my real surname) because I had chosen other nicknames/ pseudonyms over the years (wHile, opesquisador, ope, lego) but they weren't really me, although some of my Brasilian friends still call me lego because it's short for Galego and easier to pronounce than my real first name.

Don't forget the 16Bit Lolitas. bindun!

What about 48k? ;)

Well, Robert Smith stands out alright, despite his pretty common name. (Yes, I know, he named his band the Cure, but when people say "Robert Smith" you know whom they're talking about.)

I considered, for half a second, going by DJ DJ JD, because my first name is david, my middle name is jay, and I have a law degree.

I can't believe I just admitted two of those facts (the law degree, and that such a pathetically stupid moniker popped into my head).
