I've just ordered my Macbook Pro but these posts made me extremely worried..
i saw on slashdot that apple have sent a very threatening letter to something aweful because they have come up with a solution to fixing a 95 degree celcius laptop.FinoAttack-Tuuce wrote:There are posts about the new Macbook Pro's overheating problem on the forum linked below..

go to a store and try it yourself. They seem to operate within spec, but I've decided for myself that I'd prefer a cooler laptop and will wait for the next generation. Makes me wonder how the CPUs in MacBooks/iBook successors will cope within a smaller enclosure :/
Oh, and don't forget the CPU-whine and the throtteling issue.
sweetjesus,
apple wanted them to remove the service manual pictures from the thread. It's not about the thermal-paste fix itself. The slashdot-thread mentions that using the pics from the manual should be covered by fair use for illustrating the issue, although apple seems to think otherwise.

helped a lot, I'll wait my macbook order to shipserial numbers starting with W8612 is revision E, serial numbers starting with W8611 is revision D and serial numbers starting with W8610 is revision C. Apple is aware of the heat and Airport issues that have been reported, and they have made improvement to minimize these occurrences to the point where they should no longer be an issue in any revision higher than C.
You're kind of missing the point here... apple didn't send the CND to somethingawful because they posted a solution; it was because they posted photographs detailing the construction process of the macbook, which implied that too much thermal paste was being used between the cpu core and the heatsink. Anyone that's used thermal paste before knows that you're only supposed to put a thin layer of it between the two, and the photos show a healthy-sized gob. It's a bit embarassing for apple because it basically means that the macbooks that are overheating are doing so not because of a design flaw, but shoddy workmanship.sweetjesus wrote:i saw on slashdot that apple have sent a very threatening letter to something aweful because they have come up with a solution to fixing a 95 degree celcius laptop.FinoAttack-Tuuce wrote:There are posts about the new Macbook Pro's overheating problem on the forum linked below..

yeah, I thought the "feeing the intel chip" adds months ago were LAME, but now, using the dorky guy from Dodgeball to represent joe cool mac user seems like a dumb advertising move--they're trying to make the pc business guy look like a nerd by putting him next to an actor whose most well-known roll is super-geek cheer queer in Dodgeball.LOFA wrote:http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/laptops/ ... 171394.phpsweetjesus wrote:i saw on slashdot that apple have sent a very threatening letter to something aweful because they have come up with a solution to fixing a 95 degree celcius laptop.
Between this and Apples new line of apparently high school aimed TV adds I almost feel like I need to boycott them.
