MIDI input delay using live 3 and BIG serial number trouble

Post by kitchen » Sun Nov 09, 2003 3:50 am

Hello,
just downloaded live 3 and had huge problems using it on stage. Somehow my MPD16 MIDI input was about half a second delayed. This doesn't happen with live 2. And stupidly I saved my setup in live 3 and wasn't able to open it again in live 2. So this was really bad. Actually I even upgraded to live 3 only because my live 2 serial numbers ran out. And you can`t call Ableton's hotline on a Saturday..
So what is this? Next time I will save a pirated copy of live in my 'lager' just in case.
Did anyone experience similar problems with MIDI input? My CPU load was only about 50. Setup: VAIO 1.13GHz 640MB Hammerfall MPD16
By the way Alex Kowalski rules!
cheers,
kitchen

how and why do live serial numbers run out?

Live serial numbers (or rather the activation of live using your serial number) run out if you activate your copy of live too many times. In my case I installed one copy on my studio computer and one on my laptop. Then my laptop harddisk crashed, so I had to install it again, then windows XP had troubles with my audio drivers, so again new system installation and so on.. I think you can activate your live copy about five times then you have to call or write to support. The reason is that Ableton doesn't want you to give your serial number away to all your friends and have them use live for free. Anyway I think it's an ok system, better than using a dongle. But this time, bad luck for me..

ghost your application drive and be done with it.

Well I tried that already. Didn`t use ghost but some other imaging software. live went back into demo mode anyway. Probably the copy protection logs the serial number of the harddrive or something like that.
