Novation ReMOTE SL 25 automap/template question
Novation ReMOTE SL 25 automap/template question
I see Novation offers "templates" for alot of 3rd party plugins like Battery, Kontakt, Albino etc. and they also have "Automap" for Reason, Live and others. What's the difference between a "template" and an "automap"? I'm definitely thinking of picking one of these up, but want to be clear.......
Yeah I would love clarification on the Novation Remote 25SL as well.
I am currently 98% convinced that is a wicked controller. My question that I would like to add is that does it automap ALL ableton devices when they are selected.
I am becoming a fiend for the operator and would love to continue to drop in new operators and not need to map a thing. I am pretty over consistantly needing to set up my BCF2000 to control all the elements I want.
Sorry that I had no ability to answer your question.

Hey guys, I'll try to clear things up for you.
Templates are basically like any other controller where certain cc numbers are mapped out across the knobs/sliders/buttons, corresponding to certain plug-ins which have cc numbers assigned to their parameters. The name of the parameter then shows up on the lcd. Sometimes you have to load cc maps into synths like the pro-53 or fm7 for example, as many things have midi learn. So you load a controller map into the synth, which basically assigned midi cc's to the parameters, and then load a template with cc numbers assigned to physical knobs. You can also make you're own templates to assign just the important parameters you want.
Automap is sort of a template itself, except the SL and the softsynth/effect/mixer talk to each other so that the SL automatically loads the parameters and displays them on the SL. It's pretty cool and works slightly different for different apps. for example, ableton maps the mixer stuff onto the faders and buttons on the right side, and leaves the left top encoders for automap of the selected instrument/effect. The bottom eight knobs are for ableton's midi learn. It works well except that you only get eight knobs for the instrument at a time, but you can scroll through pages. Sometimes it's just a bit messy and all over. Logic on the other hand lets switch between mixer and selected instrument, giving you the whole of the SL's knobs to use. Both ways have it's benefits.
I find that a template is usually laid out better than automap, so I like to use templates where I can for instruments, and use automap for the mixer, sends and simple instruments/effects without too many parameters.
hope that helps,
grb

sweet, that clarifies a lot.
Have you had any promblems with your ReMote25SL or is it just a good wee controller.
SO, The Remote25 Automaps the right hand side to major aspects of Abletons mixer......
.............. BUT, is it possible to create templates so the WHOLE keyboard can be set up to control certain parameters.... like in Logic.....? (manually of course not with automap).
Since I currently use my BCF 2000 as my main mixing duties. I just want a good quality synth that will enable me to adjust all the parameters of EVERY device in Ableton with ease. (and of course have a keyboard that has some weight behind it, instead of feeling like cheap plastic - I played piano as a kid, so I am not too keen on the keyboards that just don't 'feel' right......... and yes I know, no keyboard (made with plastic keys) is ever going to feel like playing a piano.
Thanks for all your help.
Delicious.

Just one pad is a lot less sensitive than the others. Still works though.delicious wrote:Have you had any promblems with your ReMote25SL or is it just a good wee controller.
Ya, you just use a template, or make one, and switch to using it instead of automap. You just turn a knob to the template you want. Unfortunately when you want to use a template in ableton you have to go into preferences and remove the output communication from the computer to the SL, or else the LCD display constantly changes back to automap display, even though the knobs control the template parameters. It's weird, but not a showstopper. Or you can hit a certain button on the SL, which brings up the template display names again for about a second or two.SO, The Remote25 Automaps the right hand side to major aspects of Abletons mixer......

Anyways, it's easy to set up a template. If you want one that's just open for ableton's midi learn, just assign a bunch of cc's to the all the knobs, and then more to another template right after it, example "midi learn part 2" or whatever. If that makes sense.
What you could do is just download the tutorial videos from novation. They are quite informative.
