live 5.2 crash and shutdown *fixed*

Post by lasystem » Thu May 11, 2006 1:33 am

Just recently bought Live and upgraded to 5.2.
Am running on windows xp and echo indigo io sound card.
Whenever the cpu logs around 20 percent or more, the whole
computer locks up and then shuts down. Anyone know what is
going on??? Could it be(hopefully) some setting I need to change.
Could definitely use some help.

Note: I did send email to support but no response yet.

Thanks for any info,
lasystem

I got 5.0.3 then moved to 5.2, used XP pro and behringer FCA202 FW external audio interface, with not apparent big probem so far except I cannot close Live after recording without a crash and some random crash. I save often.
Coming back to your problem, from my PC experience it really seems that something with your setup (drivers and so on) might be damaged.
If CPU goes 20% and for no apparent reason shuts down something is sucking power.

So to try to isolate the problem:

1. Be sure you do not have any spyware or Virus on your machine
2. Remove the Echo audio card, setup Live to work with your internal AudioCard or with no audio
3. Run Live. If it does not crash well you have to point to Echo otherwise you have bad news (an OS install...)
4. If Echo is a PCI card, when reinstalling check that the IRQ or Port is not having conflicts with other devices.
5. Always install latest drives from the manufacturer of the Audio Card

It would be nice if you post your Hardware configuration.

Problem Solved.
Seems to be a problem with the cpu in my sony vaio laptop overheating.
I checked the heatsink and fan and there was a lot of dust build up.
After cleaning it out, things seem to be working much better.

Thanks all,
lasystem
