changing loop from 8th notes to 1/4 notes

Post by mitch » Thu Nov 13, 2003 11:59 pm

im sure this has been asked but i dont know how i would search for this.

i have a kick sample loaded up and the kick is playing back twice as fast as i need it to. how do i simply change the kick sample to play in the same pitch but only have the time it is currently?
thanks

when you view that clip, in the warp settings there are two buttons, one is :2 and the other is *2 they increase or decrease the tempo of the sample by 2x .... there may be some different technical definition for what they do, but that's how i think of them, i've never read the manual either ; )

i tried that and it works but is all resampled and sounds crappy. i just want the sound (unhindered) to be triggered every 1/4 note. theres gotta be a way.

i don't know what kind of sample you are using. if your kick is just a one shot sample*, i've two suggestions:

(1) if there's a little bit silence at the end of your sample (you can add this in an audio editor) use the warp markers and stretch your silence as long as needed (1/16, 1/8, whatever)

(2) throw your sample in the arranger view, copy it three times, arrange the samples on the quantization grid (1/8, 1/4, ...), mark 1 measure and render your selection to a new loop

*if your kick is a loop sample, you can make it a one shot sample in the live arranger view or any audio editor.

hope this helps

if it's live 3 the select volume clip envlope, click unlinked at the bottom, then double the length of the volume loop and automate it so it turns the level down for the secondbeat (only plays first)

im using live 2.12
its a one shot sample.
i just figured you could tell it to trigger every 1/4 or 1/8 note quantized to whatever tempo i was at.
ssonic your suggestion #2 makes sense. i will do that.

you need a simple step sequencer to do what you're describing. live doesn't currently have one.

orion, fl studio, reason, etc... all would work fine for this. just program a 1 measure loop with your kick sample, export it to a .wav file, then open it up in live.
