Not all VST parameters shown in the list

Post by moi » Mon May 22, 2006 12:31 pm

I use Guitar Rig VST with Ableton. And Guitar Rig has literally a hundred parameters one can control. But as I check long list of these parameters in Ableton I don't see them all! It looks like because this list is lengthy Ableton lacks to display the whole list! On the other hand in Cubase I can see all parameters for automation...

Maybe this thread should go to 'Bugs and Problems' section

That's really bad... But if I don't see a parameter in the list can I somehow assign a key to it, no? Or is it then totally unreachable?

Ableton has claimed in the past to be working on a solution that will let you specify which messages show up.
But will possibly still be limited to 128 parameters.

That would solve the problem... I don't need all parameters, just a certain one (in a bootom of the list)... Did Ableton team promise to fix it long ago? Does anybody put it in a wish list?

We're expecting it for Live 6. (as they said that this would be a feature for a later major version)

But you never know.
We always get our biggest requests.
But sometimes useless stuff like mp3 support hinders cooler features :p
(don't rant, whats the point of not using wav if it converts to wav anyway  )

This year the theme is "Stability and efficient CPU usage"
And they're due for some inovations that we haven't thought of yet...
Maybe they'll finally include this parameter thingy...

in theory my dual g5 should get a significant boost. So that statement is only half true.

Naturally, everyone-should-have-more-powerful-computers

I think Ableton should use the same method as FLStudio. Just move the knob on screen then choose learn midi, move the knob on your controller and you're done. No need to look through lists of obscure parameter names to determine which one to use.

i haven't used guitar rig so i may be talking crap, but i know with reaktor you can route the midi input directly to the vst and use it's inbuilt midi learn. if guitar rig has midi learn you should be able to do this as well, which would solve your problem...

You can do that without having to look through the list.. just open the list first, then hit ctrl^m, then click your vst knob, then move your midi controller, and boom.. you don't have to scroll through the list.. you're obscure controller list highlights the controller you've chosen, and assigns it, without you having to scroll through it.. unfotunately, you're still limited by the number that obscure list will show you (128), but i hope this helps...

Yes, Guitar Rig has ‘Learn’ function but it doesn’t work inside Ableton (though it works fine for standalone version of Guitar Rig).

I tried it and unfortunately it didn’t help. Nothing happens when I right-click a Guitar Rig knob (which I’d like to assign) and then push my midi-controller button. Looks like Ableton (or maybe Guitar Rig) doesn’t get that by right-clicking I point the parameter to be assigned. By the way for what kind of vst plugin this approach helped you? maybe I should try some other third-party plugin...
