MOTU Traveler Vs. Digi 002R

I hate to skew the thread here but I have to ask... DK, what do you run out to? PA or Cabinets. If cabinets, what is it that you have chosen as far as head and cabinet configuration. I'm running bass into a 15 inch cabinet from lappy and traveler and it just doesn't translate the effects/noise I am generating.

my personal rig is a small mixer to route/mix everything, run stereo into a stewart 1.6 power amp(very light, 300 watts @ 8 ohms per side, 1, 600 watts@ 4 ohms bridged)
into a pair of aguilar gs 1x12 cabs(1x12" speaker+horn, the horn has an attenuator)
these cabs really surprised me as they are also very small and light, but put out
slamming bass and really good high-end...my upright is a five string and they reproduce the lows flawlessly, along with ableton fx and sub filters...in one drum n bass group i play with
i also run vocals through them for monitoring at rehearsals, and they sound awesome.....very full-range.
i used to have a pair of jbl eon powered cabs and they were harsh sounding with no bass, the aggie cabs stomp 'em and are at least twice as loud.
you can get them used for around the low to mid 200$(us) range, new they are under 400$ easy, the stewart i got used for only 300$(a great deal)

Maybe just for some EQ or little processing. I'm the proud owner of a Vox Tonelab SE and I've never heard anything like that! Heaven should sound that way!

I guess most of the guitars will bounce from the Vox to the tracks directly.

Mannikin, I visited your space and read about your DM influence. What's your live set-up? Is it controller-based as the current one of DM?

I just sold my 002...
with me it was most of the time allright performance on 7 ms latency, but sometimes it would totally freak out and give bizar overloaded 110% on the same set that did 30 the day before.
You don't want that live.
(unpredictable drivers)
going for the multiface mk2 cardbus now...
it's on it's way; really curious on how much more stable it will be, and if you can hear the difference in conversion.....

Been using an 002 rack for a few years. It's okay, but I wouldn't recommend buying one. There is a known issue with the power harness within the 002. It tends to break. I knew this when I bought mine and 9 months into owning it, it died on me. Digi had to express ship me the replacement parts and I installed the new power harness myself. As far as I can tell this issue continues to this day.

If you want ultra low latency I wouldn't get a firewire interface. If you're on a laptop and you have a PCMCIA slot on your computer, check out what RME Hammerfall has to offer. If you're on a desktop and you have a PCI slot free, then you can save $ and find an inexpensive card. I started out in DAW-land on a M-Audio Delta 10/10. I didn't even know latency was an issue back then.

The power hardness issue has been pretty much resolved on the newer 002 more or less. Most people that got theres around mid 2005ish haven't been getting the problem. I've had mine a year without any issues at all. The people that complain about it the most are those that got it 2004 and back.

I've had a LOT more success with my 002r than the 828mkII that I sold. Between MOTU giving me horrible support and the 828 dieing twice within 6 months, I'm pretty much done with MOTU.

The biggest issue with Digi gear is that it's very anal about what you plug it into computer wise. If you don't pay close attention to what it is compatible with, you'll be in for a huge nightmare. IMHO, the 002 doesn't seem to me like a piece of equipment geared towards people who might want to DJ etc with Live.

After spending a lot of time getting used to Live (limited version), I keep feeling like it's not for me. I just don't think along the lines that the software runs. I believe in just using what works for you.

To elaborate a bit, according to Digidesign...if the serial number ends in a G or later, it shouldn't experience the problem.
