the best thing I could have done for myself was try 'em all and never look back.

As long as you got the itch might as well scratch it - but make a decision unless you're really talented at working 3 or 4 different sequencers - I'm not and I was just holding myself back wondering "what if I had blah blah blah?"

The nice part about having 1 sequencer is I have no idea what the limitations are etc etc - I just do it not thinking to myself well Logic does this better or Cubase has this and sonar has that - fuck it, I don't even know what "that" is.

I just want to write jams and Ableton makes that possible - when I get to a point Ableton can't do something I want it to do then maybe I'll start shopping around again.

Then again, I'm not as talented or have classically trained in digital audio like the rest of you so my needs are simple :)
Everything you said here is completely and totally spot on!

Everything except for you not being as talented, which is a load of shit.

Black on Brown is too much for white-boys to handle. You wouldn't survive the show.

I can't add anything to the above posts.

The question about other sequencers though... My experience is with logic, DP, and Live. Right now I'm about to upgrade DP to 5 from an old OS 9 version I've had forever... DP has a better piano roll editor, and I'm thinking with all the audio editing capabilities will make a better match for Live than Logic. Mind you, I'm not selling Logic. You can only get about $500 for it, and that wouldn't even cover the software I would have to buy to replace things that logic has built in.

Logic by far has the best linear sequencer though. I have a 7 button mouse set up with zoom functions that really make Live look bad in that department. The whole Live attitude of only two windows for working in is starting to show it's holes with the piano roll I think...
I can get much more detailed much quicker with bridges, and little transitions in a song with Logic than Live.

Why are you such a hater? I could understand if you had the skills to pay the bills and you were just some hot headed cocky kid who talked shit but had the gigs and beats to back it up

but you're not...and you don't

sad kinda

Do you prefer Sonar 5 or Sonar 4. Every test I've done has led me to believe Sonar 4.04 was prolly the most efficient DAW ever put out, with Sonar 5 just not as CPU efficient. Also the midi in 5 is a bit hard to get used to, eh?

Yes, pleaes expound on Sonar 4 vs 5. In fact I have 4 packed away somewhere, but I didn't get in to it much because the DXi which come with it are, err, crap. Also, DXi still seems like the orphan plugin standard.

HI, Sorry I had to cut that short, "Sid The Don" was trying to be a bully on the midiaddict forums and I had to put him in his place.. anyways...

I didnt find Sonar 5 cpu intensive on my old 3.2ghz p4, so really I doubt cpu efficiency is gonna be an issue unless youre on a pretty restricted setup. The stuff that comes with Sonar 5 like the convolution reverb and the psyn is just fantastic.

Anyways, what do I know, I ditched my PC and went macabe and Ill never look back.

I use Live rewired into Cubase SX 3. It's a nice combo.

Any reason why nobody's mentioned Tracktion?

Just curious.
