Which monitors would you choose ?
Hello,
I've recently checked my local shops for a pair of affordable monitors.
The candidates are - see poll. Vote for ones would you recommend or possibly use ?

Betetec Aaron rear suround speakers.
Pretty much perfectly flat from 45hz up for much, much less then over hyped monitors.
I got these from the factory, AU$330 for the small ones, AU$300 for the
large..... Cheap as chips and I've seen them stand up against $25,000
systems in the anechoic chamber.

Now all the pros will come out and say they have to be active xover.... I say
that's a load of shit.... The drivers are what's important and these are
some of the best in the world (apart from his newer ones

The guy is a genius..... At 19-20 or so he was offered a job by a powertools
company in Hong Kong on 6 figures.... He skipped on that to start his own
loudspeaker design company. Grown from a tiny company to quite a large
one..... Really loves his work, focuses on the absolute best results.
Seen him take apart PA gear that kept blowing tweeters once, found an
impedance spike at a certain frequency, pulled out the soldier iron, totally
redesigned the xover right then and there, 1 test later, no spike, really flat
response.
Watching him work his own stuff is pretty magic, once when I was there he
had a problem where ppl kept thinking his lil cheap speakers were
sounding better then his big ones. Instead of making his lil ones cheaper
to build he makes the big ones even better, when they were already the
result of 6 years dev. He showed me a lil dip in the response at like
10khz or so, pulls out the xover, unwinds a few cm off the inductance coil,
changes a resistor value retests and it's flat. (largest anechoic in
southern hemisphere, with the ability to run tests no one else bothers with
or can do)
The drivers I've got are his dual cone ones, 2 layers with an air pocket.
Takes much less to run them then a normal cone as one cone pushs the
other. Can get a good sound from crappy amps...... Tho he's got some new
hyperboloid design now...... Gets his drivers made in Taiwan to his specs.
One cool thing is he uses cloth to bind the driver to it's hub or whatever u'd
call it. So in aussie conditions it doesn't turn into a pile of rubber on the
floor.
Trying to convince him to do some tests against all the big monitors and
blow them all outta the market..... Can only hope

I'm interested in those Adam a7 , I think they come out in June. reasonable price for Adam ($999)
I'm kinda in the market for some monitors due to my M1 active mk2s going belly up a couple of days ago.
apparently it's a common problem, all of a sudden - little blue leds start flashing and no sound. power supply component death.

Ok, you have some 200 to 300ish per pair, and up to around 700 each......big spread.
I have the old bx5's. They are fine for most applications.......if you don't wanna put out cash.
Now.....if you are going to go into the 1000+ range......seriously check out the jbl 4300 series. Unless you have a true dedicated studio area with all the great acoustic placements....these are truely great.
All my namm budies told me it was like a "sea of 4300's" this year.....why? because they have some nice tricks make up for room imperfections.
Of course, you could just spend thousands of dollars getting a room acoustically treated...........
