anyone using izotope ozone? some queries...

I'm looking at this thinking it could be a good one-stop solution to a lot of things. I'm not really any good at mastering so it would be cool to have an all-in-one to learn from presets and tweak them accordingly.

And on top of using it for mastering, it seems like it could be a good plug to use on individual tracks for eq/compression etc. Anyone using it for separate tracks or just for final mixes?

easy to come to grips with?

I didn't notice on the site wether it was universal binary or if that had been announced either. Anyone know?

In the same boat as you, downloaded the demo yesterday. Sounds like good stuff so far, not crazy about the GUI aesthetics though.

I searched KVR for input, major points:

-pretty good and very flexible EQ
-limiter generally got very favorable mention
-likewise the dither
-MC got some flak
-everyone seems to agree it's good value for money

I use Ozone quite often on individual tracks and for submixes and then on to the final Mastering. I too have no mastering skills still learning so I love all the presets that really sound good and then a couple of tweaks and you've got a nice sound that you created. On my G4 Powerbook 1.5g 12" 1.25g Ram it can get CPU hungry depending on what your doing so if plan on using on individual tracks I resample. But my tracks sound so much thicker, wider, louder, and really bright. It also has a lot of features like EQ matching that I haven't got into yet. Which will come in handy one day when I'm bored on a rainy day I'll do some reading and figure it out.

So overall I give it 2 thumbs up great all around product gets the job done. Only $200 that’s a reasonable price as well. I mean Izotope has some nice other procucts I wish I had. Only if I would've spent $100 more I could've gotten all 3 products, now that's a good deal.

Use the demo that's what convined me I did a short track mastered it with the demo and burned it to a cd and it sounded a lot better than my other tracks. Sold!

Yeah I've been looking at iZotope as well. I'm downloading the demo now to have a play with. Like you guys I'm no mastering engineer and would be wicked to have something like that which would beef the whole mix up.
I know that The Crystal Method were bigging it up, however that was on a video from the M-Audio website, where they were generally bigging all there M-Audio kit up!
Its interesting to hear what other users think and to get an un-tainted opinion.

keep posting, and lets get an honest, overall conclusion of these plugs.

Yea I liked to hear any comments on using the EQ matching? Like I said I haven't used this feature yet but it seems innovative to be able to match the EQ of another track and match it with yours. I personally like the GUI its not so big and like their other products you can switch to different views upon different effects. I just saw the video on Izotope that shows you how to isolate a sound by holding down alt+cntrl I believe and it lets you zip and isolate a particular area of the sound. I mean sure there are plenty of other Mastering plugs like Waves for example which is top notch stuff, but for me I'm dedicated to LIVE meaning I use it for the whole mix down process no other DAW only LIVE. I would recommend getting the 3 product special for $300. Trash is good, I recently read Ricard Devine's interview on using Izotope's products mainly Trash and Spectrum.

im using ozone. i switched from a single band t-racks version to ozone3 cause its got multiband compression and exciters. ive been doing mastering for myself and others for a few years, and through trial and error i'd like to say im fairly knowledgable about doing it in terms of a project studio. however, i have never had the pleasure of dealing with ultra-high end or vintage outboard gear, so im limited in that perspective

as a comparison i initially sort of liked the sound of t-racks better. it was much more tubey, however there are more subtle digital artifacts. ozone is cleaner and more precise, and the multiband compression will really fill out the sound nicely.

its great that its got presets, but many of them are for single tracks like vocals or drumkits, and i just use it as a mastering plug in. its a little too beefy to run usefully on a single track on my system, without resampling. i render out the stereo file, make a new project, bring the file in, uncheck warp, slap ozone across the master, and then choose a preset and start tweaking.

on the one hand i really like the gui, it can give you more information than youll ever need and it looks cool. on the other hand, it can give you all kinds of useless info that looks like its just supposed to be eye candy, thus sucking up resources. but then again, maybe i just dont know what all those little flashing boxes around the DC offset strip mean....

the eq matching is a pretty cool feature that i have experimented with a little bit. it will give you a visual representation of a snapshot of an eq for what ever song you sample from. it (of course) wont magically make your song sound like anything else, but it can give a graphic image of the eq settings to shoot for and the eq is super-ultra flexible and informative.

good to read your post joshu@, I've been messin around with the demo and think that it is well worth the investment.

I just need a nice plugin like that to flush my mixes through, and iZotope seems to be the answer.

The one thing I thought was strange was the reverb on a mastering plug. You guys ever put reverb on the master? I never have. maybe I'm missing out.

Anyone know if ozone's universal yet for intel macs?

No universal yet.

Discreet reverb is supposedly much more common in real mastering than the home studio purists would have you believe.

To be honest, I never realised reverb was ever used on the master 4 masterin. But hey, thats why I like this forum, its a pool of knowledge that as soon as you dip in theres a hell of a lot you can learn that leaves you cravin for more. If only i could stay awake

I didn't see any bundle offers on the site. Where are you seeing this? And also, I'm seeing ozone for $249 rather than $200. Is there somewhere else I should be looking???

About the reverb... you'll see it used at the mastering stage as a glue for the different elements of the mix.

That's not the bundle though, right, just Ozone?
