Midi Sync plugin needed -SOLVED

Post by Soarer » Wed May 24, 2006 5:04 pm

Hi Ableton Community

I just bought live saturday morning so I'll probably come here with some noob questions from time to time. I am really having a great time experimenting with Live :-)

I need to trigger a vst instrument manually by midi notes but in sync with Live's tempo. So I've been looking around for some midi sync plugins but I haven't found anyone working yet. Do you guys know of any?

So it would work exactly like triggering an audio or midi clip in the session view with launch mode set to gate.

When you press down the note it will only come through at every 1,½,1/4,1/8 or 1/16th notes.

I did come up with a workaround in Live triggering a midi clip with the note I need and sending the midi to the vsti but I'd still prefer a midi fx.

I own Reaktor and maybe it has been made already. I'm not smart enough to build it myself though it should probably be fairly easy.

Hope you can help.

Try the Arpeggiator, the default setting does more or less what you want I think

Thanks Kahn but... I just gave it a try and it does not really do the job properly.

Ha! I did it! I made it in Reaktor. It was quite simple actually. It really works great and syncs perfectly. Live should have a midi plugin like this, very handy.

I can post it here or in the reaktor library if anyone is interested.
-Reaktor ONLY, not a vst.

I use it to trigger a sample slicer called LiveSlice.

Yes I can but I don't know how to upload a file! Can you help? I've checked the FAQ but it doesn't say anything about it. You did mean upload it here, right?

here's a good free hosting service http://www.freefileupload.net/

just upload the file there and post the url here, it turns into a link automatically (just like at kvr ;)).

btw: hi, soarer.. i guess i know which plugin you tried to trigger with the plug of yours ;)

He he Hi R.A.W nice to see you here :D

Thanks for the link, it works like a charm.

Here is the link to my Reaktor plugin. As I mentioned earlier I am a complete noob at reaktor building and I'm sure the plugin could have been put together in a more efficient way. Especially the rate and offset stuff is quite embarrassing!

Well, it works fine for me. Please see the hints for the instrument and each of the gui elements for info.

Feedback is most wellcomed!

I insert the reaktor instrument or fx (the vst plugin) in a midi track and make another track with the instrument I want to trigger and have that track tap the midi from the first track.
