how do i sustain a key hit in ableton?

Post by Drum Addiction » Tue Apr 18, 2006 4:36 am

ok im not using a midi keyboard at the moment, just the simple midi piano roll in ableton but every time i hit one of the keys to preview a note, it plays for only about 1/4 of a second, is there any way i can disable this to make the note preview sustain as long as i hold the piano roll key down?

seems like you're playin a sound/preset that last 1/4bar.

If you are playing a sound that has its decay/sustain set to only sound for that period of time it doens't matter how long you hold down the note or how long a note you draw in the pianoroll, if this is a sound in the Simpler sampler you need to loop the sound so it can sustain for as long as you hold down the note.

ok what im trying to do is play notes out from reaktor, ones that have crazy modulation going on in them the longer then note is played but no matter how long i hold down the note in the keyboard in the ableton piano roll, it still plays for a 1/4 bar

the piano roll is only a preview, its there to help you find the right notes so you can plug them into the grid. so i believe its not designed to give you sustained notes

you really need to use a MIDI keyboard as input to the channel in order to play VST patches the way theyre designed to be played.

You can use the computer keyboard as a midi keyboard, click on the keyboard icon at the top. Also, read the fine manual.
