all these people who think a DJ crossfade or a 1ms crossfade on clips is equivalent to a proper DAW crossfade really ought to read the original post a little better. Also I'm guessing they never used Cubase / Nuendo / Logic / any other DAW, it's an obvious feature, In cubase you just drag one clip over another and press X

Angstrom-

not sure if you were agreeing or i wasnt clear enough- i think we DO need real crossfades and in/out fades..

tab transients would be nice for chopping too....

sorry - I'll be clear.
  • I want crossfades in arrangement and in session,
  • In arrangement I want to drag one clip over another and press X to make a fade
  • I want to be able to grab that X fade and drag it up and down to modify the curve. basically just like cubase !
  • In session I want to be able to X-fade from one scene to the next.
that last one came up due to working in theatical situations - in session how would you fade one scene out and another scene in?
EG : going from indoor office noise and sound effects - fade to - outdoor street noise.

It's not currently possible, we can only hard jump between scenes. We can fade between tracks but I never use that - I have many sliders to control track volume, nothing to deal with scene transition. That really got me.

i agree about the crossfades 100,000%.

for the crossfading bwtn scenes can you just put the scenes on different tracks fade that way or is that too much of a work around?

the scenes for that performance consist of about ten tracks, there are 4 tracks of background noise, two of environmental 'effects' , two of long musical pre-renders, two with VST instruments on that I play, or get played in the scene.

An example scene would be - the first scene : (inside a noisy apartment block),

track 1 : street noise muffled
track 2: neighbours shouting and throwing things
track 3: neighbours telephone ringing and TV chanel changing (muffled)
track 4: loop of someone going up stairs and buzzing a buzzer

track 5: (actor triggered) television (inside the apartment)
track 6: (actor triggered) telephone rings and answerphone messages

track 7: bogeyman theme
track8 : angel bells

track 9 : kontact choral pad
track 10: fuzz bass with grain delay on

the next scene is an external (street) scene, the street noise in track one needs to de-muffle, neighbours throwing things is replaced by cars going by ... etc etc.

it's very complex.

so, short answer, no I couldnt really put the scenes on different tracks, I need the tracks to control the various balances.

In the end I performed it with jump cuts, no-one complained ! heh

Still no crossfades =(

Post by paveloso » Tue Jan 16, 2007 2:37 pm

Aaaargh, Ableton... Do we really have to wait till version 7 to get fades / crossfades for audio clips in the arrangement window?

I think this is a really serious oversight in an otherwise powerful application, particularly since Live is so strongly sample and loop-oriented!!

P-L-E-A-S-E-! =(

+1
Its an arrangement thing, again ableton we really need stuff like this.
Simple "boring" features which improve this program (And every other program already has had for like 10 years).
Thanks.
