2nd impressions:Better manual is needed

Post by Ashermusic » Tue Nov 11, 2003 7:00 pm

Great program, lousy manual. For instance, in Sessions view it says that you can add and delete "scenes".Well, call me crazy but I think it would be kind of nice if somewhere in the %#$%!@ manual it defined what a "scene" is. If it is there I apologize but I can't find it and of course there is no index.Sheesh!

I don't ask Ableton to deliver all its secrets, but I also think that the manual could be more detailed, especially from a conceptual point of view. An example ? "How does Arranger view and Session view communicate..." or "What is elastic audio ?" Please write a good conceptual chapter, and also interactive summary and index (you know, PDF format is able to embed links), it will help users to catch the underlying philosophy of your software, and as a consequence, it will reduce the so-called learning curve of it. Live deserves a better manual, as it is so powerful, stable and efficient. Ableton did something really hot, now they have to explain it a bit more, that's what I think, and I see that I'm not alone.
