Echo Indigo IO latency issues - WinXP

Hi folks.

The basics of my setup are:

- Sony Vaio notebook w/XP Pro SP1/750MHz PIII/256MB RAM (yeah, I know it's a bit on the wimpy side)
- Live 3.0
- Reason 2.5
- Echo Indigo IO PCMCIA card

My question/problem is this:

What's the optimum audio driver (given my setup) to use with Live? Before installing the Echo drivers (which are the latest versions from Echo's site), I had the choice of MME and DX, both of which worked ok but neither of which were great for latency (~30ms). After installing the Echo drivers, I now get inconsistant crackling sounds (very faint, but noticable) when using Echo DX setting in Live's preferences -- regardless of what I do with the latency adjusters. Sometimes rebooting and/or taking the PC card out and putting it back in resolves the crackling issue. Also, I've noticed that adjusting the latency in Reason's prefs tends to get rid of the crackling, but this doesn't work in Live. And since I tend to use Live as a ReWire master for Reason, Live's latency prefs control the whole setup leading to crackle from both apps.

To make matters more confusing, there's a new driver option -- Echo IO ASIO WDM (or something to that effect) available in Live's prefs now. From reading around, I had thought that ASIO drivers are *always* preferable to either MME or DX; but if I chose that driver in Live, the audio output is completely distorted beyond all recognition, regardless of what I do with the latency/buffer settings. FWIW, this last problem isn't just a Live issue -- I get the same thing if I choose the ASIO driver in Reason's prefs (with Reason running in non-ReWire mode).

Any thoughts? I've noticed that other folks here report wonderful experiences with Echo Indigo cards, so I wonder what I'm doing wrong. Again, I *have* been able to get brilliant sound out of the card at times, but it's not consistant. And the ASIO issue confuses me... help?

Just wanted to echo some of your echo problems. I'm using the echo indigo IO on my powerbook under osx and also get the same sporadic static bits. The card sounds great when the static isn't there, but the unfortunate occassional crackle means I won't be using the card for the show I bought it for (damn.).

good luck with trying to sort it out. hopefully someone has some words of advice on the subject. (sorry it wasn't me!)

I got my echo DJ card last week but did have some problems getting it to work properly...I had a choice of tow asio drivers and at first couldnt get either one to work...I was experiencing the extreme distortion (and cutouts) you refered to as well....I have you tried lowering the number of samples in the echo console?...I eventually got it to work under with asio wdm and asio full duplex on one machine (a MESH)..but could only get it to work asio full dulex on the other (a toshiba), the settings on live in both machines were identical (as far as I know!)...I now have very low latency for 256 samples and noise from the card is basically non existant...
