Every time my girlfriend hears this she says "that sounds summery!" , obviously it isn't very memorable though because she has said it about 5 times without twigging that it is the same track!

there is some trickery about 2/3rds of the way through

it's summery, it also is late night chillin
I definately could imagine a warm female voice on this as well though
something like that girl Tricky did this 5th track of Nearly God with
or nina simone for that matter

A smooth and tasty track, very well done! Right up my alley, I enjoyed this a lot. Lots of nice subtle touches throughout. Not sure if it's the power of suggestion but yeah I'm getting a summery feel for sure.

This is really cool, any chance I can get a 320kbps MP3, or better yet, a wav version? This would be a great set opener for a mix I'm putting together...

Hey Angstrom,
This is nitty as hell, but when the first note of your lead comes in at :30, it sounds (to me) like a real cheesy synth horn for the first half measure or so. After that it mellows out, and I think the rest of the track fits sits real well. You've got a vocal sounding stab at around 3:20 that I like as well. I wouldn't mind hearing you play around with it for 8 bars or something.

yep, when the lead line comes in it sounds a little 'synthetic' - I tried a few things to emphasise the first note and fix this at the same time(as it has to be quite loud when it comes in) but decided to leave it for a while as they didn't really add anything. Sometimes the idea for how to deal with those problematic things comes to me about 2 months later.

re: the vocal sample - the plan is to put in a kind of mumble/shout along that usually went with James Brown songs. That sample IS James brown (:roll: ) He used to get the band shouting and clapping along on an overdub, for me it will be next time I get a load of drunk people round here and am arsed setting up a mic !

Tarekith - I'll PM you when I get round to putting a higher 320 mp3 somewhere. I always think 320mp3 is usable on a rig so that should do you - how the hell you would DJ a song that ends in 14/8 (and increases 5 bpm in the middle) is beyond me !

I'll send you the bpm info - etc. so you don't have to guess. I normally do a 'DJ' version of these things just so my life is easier. This track is not at that point yet though.

Thanks man, no worried on the tiem signatures bit. I write stuff with wierd time sigs too, it's not hard to mix, you just need to be a bit more creative

Very laid back, very sexy I almost unknowingly rubbed one out right here at work listening to it, thank god nobody walked by.

My wife does the same thing, she's just happy I'm staying out of trouble. Last night she came into the room looking for some smoke, I put what I was working on on the speakers, she half acknowleged it and walked out only to return to ask if I'd listen to James Blunt with her.

In light of that I'm glad she doesn't always dig my music, no accounting to taste but I do love her.

thanks for the comments

I was torn about extending the end, but after a break from it I think I will - it can stand it.

as far as vsti goes, the background noises are all from a pre-rendered track of nonsense noise by an old synthedit noisemaker I made for these purposes. I make a few minutes twiddling dials then edit it up. parts sound like guitars here!

the lead is an FM7 patch
the kit is all in a load of Impulses
the bass is one of my synths, another SE creation
One effect that got used a lot was my favourite creation 'psychopan' (made in synthmaker)which emulates how stereo really works when it pans around rather than just getting quiet on one side it uses tiny delays and filtering. it really helps place things in a mix

other than that it's all the basic Live effects
