Ableton looses the connection with the midi controller.

I've just taken the step of moving over from CD's to Ableton Live for DJing. I've just bought Ableton Live and an M-Audio UC 33 Midi Controller plus a laptop soley for the purpose of DJing live with with no other programs or aplications on the laptop to keep it stable.

I've used it a couple of times now DJing and was enjoying it but last week I wished I hadn't commited to the change from CD's.

During the course of my 3 hour set Ableton lost contact 3 times with the Midi controller and the only thing that would bring it back was to close down Ableton and re open it. Obvioulsy when performing live this isn't very good as the music stops but luckily I've been carrying my CD's around with me just incase of such of scenario.

Does anybody have any idea why this happens as it makes the product completly useless for me as it has to be stable and reliable in a live environment.

Any help would be greatly appreciate as I need to rectify the problem before this weekend.

have u checked ur midi leads...

happened to me a few weeks ago, and changing the faulty lead resolved all probs.

Its a USB lead and it seems to be fine the reason I say this is becuase the laptop and the midi controller are fixed and not moved or touched and also I've left everything still at home for an hour to test this to see if it was the lead and it always disconnects even if nothing is touched but it takes about 30mins to 1 hour to do this. I have also tried wiggling around the usb leads to see if I can get it to disconnect and it doesn't. Plus everything is only about 3 weeks old so it shouldn'tbe faulty yet.

Any other ideas?

av u checked u got latest drivers for the midi controller?

sometimes hardware gets shipped with previous version of drivers.

I've never installed a driver.
in the instruction manual it say the UC33e is class compliant and doesn't require a driver for Windows xp.
Shall I install one?

sorry cant help much more than that. im on OSX, and dont run windows!

my hunch would be to disregard the class-compliant bla bla and look on the m-audio support site to see if u can find anyone with similar probs to urs.

unless someone else from this forum can suggest anything...

Thanks for your help.

I've found somone saying that it could be becuase I connect via USB that its trying to go into powersave mode on the port. I wouldn't of thought that would be it as when using it live the Midi controller is used every minute atleast so it wouldn't go into powersave mode in that short a space of time.

Will keep looking.
