LIVE 5.2- CPU SPIKES and AUDIO GLITCHES STILL PRESENT

no monitor noise?
no cpu noise?
battery noise?
i'm hearing all of these nightmare stories about people opening multiple
MBP boxes at the apple stores only to encounter the same issues from box to box.
I'm also reading nightmare threads about service cases with the MBP.

I've been getting crap performance with live 5, specifically when playing a new scene with a whole heap of samples that havent been played yet, live backs up, stutters or even worse, the dreaded WWRRRWw sound.
I put this down some sort of caching issue and the fact that my powerbook still only has 256Mb. (F*$cking ebayer had a false description)
Although this is completley unexceptable and needs to be fixed pre v6 for all who paid for 5... and, I'm gonna order a 1G stick soon as I'm paid..
I just want to know if anyone is still getting this problem on Powerbook with 1G+ and a quality card/drivers.
Curiously, no glitches (that I've noticed) with same songs on the Athlon which is a pretty low-spec machine.

MacBook Pro Retina. Ableton 10/11.
Audio Dropouts
I've DJ'd with Live since version 2. I've always had random problems with audio drop outs - but never more than 1 or 2 in a 2-3 hour set so its never been a huge worry.
BUT - of course I'd still like to have zero drop outs.
I just got a MacBook Pro 2ghz Intel Core Duo w/512RAM, 5200 Int drive.
Apart from the Apple stuff, the only app I have installed is Ableton Live 5.2.
I imported a large library of warped trks from my old PB and did a test DJ set for 2 hours. I didn't turn off the airport or dashboard or anything - and the only device connected was my trust Evolution UC33. NO DROP OUTS. This is using just the in-built audio output and the internal 5200 drive. Just 512RAM remember.
I was satisfied and put the laptop to sleep without quitting Live.
Came back the next morning and woke it. Starting messing with the DJ set again. This time I got LOTS of audio drop outs. The CPU went from 5-6% up to past 50% and the audio would just cut-out and then in again like a stutter. I had no more than 3-4 clips running at the same time. No midi, no VSTs, just a Ping Pong Delay on the Send 1 and Auto-Filters on each channel. This happened continually - so I rebooted and relaunched. The drop outs disappeared again and I had another 3 hours clitch free DJing.
So in my case it seems to be related to the length of time Ableton is left open without rebooting/relaunching.

You might be on to something Burt. This is a different situation but it seems like i have problems after Live being open and running for a long time. If I just do a quick loop based track in clip mode of my version of electronica or a couple of finished beats and/or not to many softsynths I dont have any problems. If i am doing a session with a couple of guitar tracks in the arrange view I tend to take more time and takes, therefore leaving the program open and running longer. Now that I think of it, that's when I really start to have problems. Now I use Logic for tracking guitars, long sessions, etc. I alot of times I use Live for a beat and basic structure, render, then import into Logic with no problems with that. I hope they fix some of this shit. I really liked the simplicity and work flow of Live. I wish 4 would run on this machine 'cause I'm not the most technologically advanced. I like to play music. Logic is cool and the learning curve is steeper than Live IMO, but I am able to run it smoothly for the most part, but man do I miss that super smooth workflow of Live.

i actually think i am experiencing the same issues with live being open for a while before using it.
i have done several sets on 5.2 with maybe one or two audio glitches. no biggie.
a few weeks ago i did a set and had MASSIVE glitches and audio dropouts. the main difference between the good sets and the bad one is that before, i opened live RIGHT before i was ready to play. the last time, i opened it, got a few things sorted, and decided to leave it on for about an hour before i played.
BAM!!! crazy problems...
gonna go back to opening right before i play and see if that solves anything...
reinstalled 4 on my machine in hopes of avoiding any of this altogether, only to realize that i would have to rewarp my entire collection. feh.
abes, please sort this!!! i am running out of options...

complex mode practically unusable
i thought i had little or no sound quality issues but have recently changed the way i approach warping. I'm a DJ and was playing most of my tunes in re-pitch mode. Now i'm branching into using clip envelopes to transpose sections of a clip i started to notice terrible digital artifacts in the sound. Rather like over compressed mp3's. I though maybe beatport were at fault as i use a lot of their wavs. But i've checked with recorded vinyl and ripped cds. All have the same issues. I've noticed the effect is reduced when i rewarp or move a warp marker. Its as if the exact placement of the warp markers effects the sound quality.
I had been forcing live to use exact bpm's, ie if live thought the bpm was 129.99 i'd set the global tempo at 130 and tell live to warp at 130, this way i might only need 2 or 3 markers for a whole track. This produces the most digital noise. If i rewarp using "straight", thus needing many more warp markers, the digital noise is greatly reduced. Also moving a warp marker after i've forced the tempo will reduce the problem.
What is going on? Switching to beats mode removes the issue but creates others with basslines etc. I've seen a lot of people complaining that version 4 was better than 5 quality and reliability wise. 5 has complex and 4 doesn't. Could this be part of the problem?

Complex mode sound quality issues
Sorry i just read my previous post and realised i haven't made it clear that i've started to use "complex" mode more now since certain effects dont work in re-pitch mode, ie transpose.
Hope someone can shed some light on my problems as i was just about to go live with live! now having to reavaluate my options and methods.

I find this to be the case as well.oddtones001 wrote:You might be on to something Burt. At one point I had task manager opened just to watch the performance stats of my laptop as i worked in Live. I noticed the Memory usage rising as the program sat idle, not playing.

notice no-one is responding to what i've thrown into the mix, maybe i,m on the wrong thread. It does say audio glitchs though and this certainly is.
Have experimented further and found the audio glitch only occurs when you try to play a clip in complex mode at its natural bpm. faster or slower is fine. Weird.

That is very weird. I'm having problems with Live playing back my own home grown loops w/ reg audio tracks so i dont change BPM, I usually stick with where I started. If what I have experienced is relative to what you are going through, I dont know, maybe? Who the hell knows? Its too bad because if it (5.2 bug fix update) was as stable as version 4, I wouldnt have needed Logic. I used to do everything in 4. It was beautiful the way everything used to flow............Ah, those were the days......maybe they will return someday but until then, almost a grand for Logic Pro and a degree from MIT to use it to its maximum fucking potential.

Sounds like the same issue. Does the digital noise dissapear/reduce when you speed up/slow down the gloabal tempo?
Thought i was only person experiencing this as google searches drew a blank. That perhaps eliminates my configuration as being the cause of the problem then.
Guess most people dont use complex mode on clips they're playing at their natural bpm. Would have thought it would be in the magazine reviews though, its so obvious to the ears. Maybe I'll post this onto the Future Music forums to see if anyone else has same problem.
