Where do my freeze files go?

Everytime I freeze some tracks on a song/project everything works fine as long as I have the song/project open. But when I want to open that song later I get a poppup thing that says that Live cant find the freeze files. And when 5 try to locate them they are gone! Whats up with that?

Anyone else with these issues?

hi,

when you freeze a track, the audiofile created goes to a "temp" (temporary) folder, waiting to be save...
file menu-> save set as self-contained.

you don't need to save as self contained

The samples generated by the Track Freeze command are stored in your temporary recording
folder until you save your Live Set, at which point they are moved to your Sounds folder.

from the manual

the 'sounds folder' is the one that goes alongside every Live set.

after you freeze an arrange track, or a session track, can you then go into the sounds folder or temporary recording folder and drag that audio back into your session, or into a totaly different session if you wish?

Or if you have saved your project as self contained before,then the freeze track go to the self contained file.

I'm surprised anyone's actually using freeze at all - I find it's actually quicker to solo a track, render it, then drag it to a new audio track and disable everything on the 1st one

yes freeze is that bad - which is strange because in theory all it needs to be is a mcaro to do everything I just said

I'll chime in with something wierd, though you are correct mostly......

I did this idiot thing, and went macintel........anyways, I had backed up all of my live files .....which were extensive......

Now, sometimes, I had to freeze for cpu. I personally like the one button thing.....

and ya know what? even if I did not have the plug (which is for the most part) it will play on the new system.

This may not mean anything to some people, but I have to say, I thought it was kinda cool.

Practical? maybe not.......but it definatly hit the cool factor.....

Forge, you right ( it is not economical on HD because of resolution) but thanks to the bloody freeze i didnt loose a day of work. Normally I render to audio at the end when everything is set, so just live midi/Vsts as they are, freezing was my salvation
maybe i was too tired or something clicking save as or whtever stupid thing, no idea but I lost my project, means it was there next morning but almost empty, I was pleased to find those frozen tracks, then i had quick referenz to reconstruct the rest and anyway there were those unique filter all kind of live midi actions recorded while on inspiration that would never be the same, I was so pissed that I lost it then seeing them frozen made my day.

Another advantage of this method/disadvantage of Live's freeze function is that by rendering manually you can load the file into RAM.

I've run into a situation many times where I'll have to freeze several tracks to make my processor happy, but then the load on my laptop's harddrive is too much so I get dropouts from that.....The freeze function should include the capability of loading frozen tracks into RAM.

I use this method too. The Freeze function is pretty weak. say you want to move your arrangement over a bar or two, Freeze-Unfreeze, how about add an effect to that track. Nope!
