routing external audio into a midi instrument- MOTU MX4

Hi all,

Could someone help here: Is it possible to route an external audio input (guitar) into a midi instrument (MOTU MX4- an inspiring synth with an uninspiring iLok) in Live? Side-chaining audio into a midi inst. is probably a feature that I've overlooked. I am a new user and apologize if there's a simple answer. I know that Absynth also has this external audio feature, so maybe there is a common fix to this. Thanks to all, getting into Live has been sooooo fun. Cheers,
