Members of this forum, we need to pay Klinikal back somehow. Since he can't receive Paypal, I high recommend some other payment method. If all else fails, let's at least hook him up with a brothel in Amsterdamn or something...give this man some mad props, as this is a truly great accomplishment.

Excellent skins Klinikal!!!

Got my new laptop and it looks tough against the silver and black layout...and plenty easy on the orbs.

hey great job with the updated skins!

i was using the first all black one, but had to take it off b/c i use a knob to navigate through scenes and tracks... the ableton defaults didn't bring out the highlighted "crosshairs" either....until you came out with these...i'm really feeling the color scheme, and the highlights stand out nicely

thanks!

This is an Ableton gig so you have to understand...

Last thing A wants is programmers messing with their property and charging for what are essentially modifications to their copyrights and trademarks. Remember, from what others have said, these activities are tolerated as long as there is benefit to the software user base without solicitation for graciously provided enhancements. This is totally proper however it is likely that Klinical might receive an A bonus behind the scenes. Good thing we're dealing with A because another software company like Sony Digital would have shut this stuff down real fast. That said, thanks Klinical for enriching our A experience.

Also, the canook has the wrong analysis...by the canook reasoning, all Livefills and SoundWrecks would be illegal. I believe that skins are just as relevant as any other artistic addition to this software and this user community, and if Klinikal were to be compensated by us as an appreciation for his hard work, the As would only benefit from all this enthusiasm.

Hmm, I would say there is a difference (in the eyes of Ableton) between content soundpacks and skins.

to us it may seem like there is no difference but consider the response from Alex about skin editing.

To Ableton - editing skins is altering the software not providing content, when pearsonart(?) mentioned profit, Alex agrees

edited for brevity

will someone from Ableton please comment in thread as to whether we can share info about the variables.
I'm not a lawyer but I think the EULA is pretty clear on prohibit every kind "reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, modify,...". So sorry but no.
I also don't expect the company to support compatibility with any of the 3rd party skins that are released - including Robert's.
Absolutely right. As long as we do not provide an official way to create skins we will not and also can not provide support for any 3rd party skins.
But then again, I could easily see a few successful variations influencing the built in skins of a future official release and that's a nice thought.
I would agree :)
My skin mods have been available since October and not a word from the company. I think as long as our intentions are good and no harm or profit comes from it, we're being encouraged to tinker.
I would agree.
So to provide skins for your own use or for others is one thing we can live with but not to provide guides explaining internals of our software or our formats nor to provide tools to create files of our formats without our authorization.

/Alex

I would hope that Ableton see this skin interest and actually supply a tool to edit skins. Or at least give the go-ahead for a third party to make one under license.
